The Amazon Robotics (AR) Robotics Manufacturing and Technical Operations organization oversees the manufacturing of high-quality robotics and gets the right materials to the right place at the right time to enable our automated solutions. It’s a fast-paced operation that works cross-functionally with teams across Amazon globally, and is driven by data and performance indicators. We are seeking a talented and motivated Manufacturing Process Support Engineer with a proven track record of implementing best in class processes within a complex manufacturing environment. This role will report to the Manager of the Product Sustaining and Support Engineering team under the Manufacturing Test and Controls group. You will be our onsite representative at our contract manufacturing partners near Guadalajara, where you will be instrumental in keeping our test stations up-to-date and working properly, solving new-product introduction issues, and monitoring production quality as our liaison to our manufacturing partners.

Key job responsibilities

  • Actively support and foster a culture of inclusion.

  • Review and improve station documentation including preventative maintenance plans, installation guides, and troubleshooting guides.

  • Investigate and report on systemic product failures.

  • Drive root cause analysis of product, component, or assembly issues.

  • Support Windows-based software and hardware issues and scheduled tasks.

  • Perform onsite quality audits.

  • Review external production processes, identify risk and mitigate.

  • Qualify production processes based on dimensional data, control plans.

  • Support Supply Chain requests as required.

  • Assist with new station installations and station retrofits

  • Support the contract manufacturing teams by resolving complex manufacturing problems in real time.

  • Propose design changes that will enhance product manufacturability and testability.

  • Perform onsite quality audits.

  • Willing to “roll up sleeves and do what needs to get done” by leveraging multiple diverse skill sets.

  • Up to 30% travel required, including international travel.

  • Write and present comprehensive test reports.

A day in the life

The role manages the overall performance of test systems installed at the electronics manufacturing service (EMS) providers. You concentrate on the successful deployment and ongoing support activities for the lifecycle of these test systems. You continually evaluate the performance of all test systems and independently identifies improvements to pursue. You audit preventative maintenance activities, execute upgrades, improve documentation. Although employed directly by Amazon, the role is virtually embedded on-site with the EMS providers. They must be able to represent the best interests of Amazon while at the same time working with external organizations to achieve common goals.

About the team

The Manufacturing Test and Controls (MTAC) Product Sustaining and Support Engineering (PSSE) team owns test engineering transition of all products in near-beta-exit status, standardization, documentation, safety and training requirements. Additionally, it leads continuous improvement programs for enhanced yield and productivity, coordinate cross-site knowledge transfer during geographical expansions, and acts as Point Of Contact (POC) for Keep The Lights On (KTLO) activities on all GA products. This team prioritizes the rapid response and consistency.

Basic Qualifications

  • Completed Bachelor Degree or equivalent

  • 3+ years of General Experience

  • English Intermediate-advanced (B2+)

  • Knowledge of state-of-the-art test equipment, assembly fixtures, ATE equipment, and ICT.

  • Demonstrated expertise with root cause analysis.

  • Benchtop electrical debug tool experience.

  • Strong understanding of support processes – SLA, handling tickets, monitoring, processes and metrics.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completed Electrical Engineering or Computer Science Master’s degree.

  • Experience testing time of flight (TOF) cameras, stereo cameras, and other sensor systems.

  • Functional knowledge of quality tools such as 5-Why, Fishbone Analysis, 8D, Controls Plans, Capability studies, GR&R, sampling plans.

  • Experience in circuit level debug to the component level.

  • RF experience, specifically with Wi-Fi, LTE, and radio testing.

  • NI TestStand and LabVIEW experience.

  • Testing and controlling products built on Linux.

  • Experience with Keysight 3070 In-circuit test systems and/or Keysight Family Multiplexed User Fundamentals Class I and II.

  • Experience with program debug for visual inspection machines (AOI3D and X-Ray).

  • Understanding of the complete deployment life cycle from design, build, test, deploy.

  • Demonstrated expertise with memory validations for pre-programmed parts.

  • Experience with Oracle Agile Product Lifecycle Management.
