Our Wyandotte-based team is searching for a Sr. Project Manager to join the GEC/GPM team in North America. We seek your help to manage and execute projects for GEC/GPM, with special focus on the Wyandotte Chemical Engineering Research (CER) facility; a part of the Global Research (RG) division. This facility is unique in the region, where the goal of their work is to truly Create Chemistry for BASF and our customers.

As the key point of contact between CER and GE, this role will lead and direct engineering efforts that support the facility in both project and technical support. This work portfolio will often include of new technologies that support BASF’s innovations that support out competitive advantage. This role will require your technical background and project management experience to lead our teams quickly through technical challenges as they develop in this exciting field.

As a Sr. Project Manager, You Create Chemistry By...

  • Leading a portfolio of capital investments by engaging early to develop project scopes, generating budgetary cost estimates, and preparing appropriation funding requests. Additionally, ensuring appropriate project safety reviews are completed as required, both before and after approval, and utilizing applicable Value- Based Engineering practices (VBEs) to optimize project scope, schedule, and costs.

  • Engaging across the organization you will develop, establish, and maintain, partnerships with assigned project manufacturing representatives to execute projects from initial scoping and funding, through detailed engineering and procurement, to startup and commissioning, and final documentation and closure.

  • Ensuring that Operations is well supported by GEC Engineering to not only achieve project success, but also establish a culture of strong technical support through partnerships with the local teams as well as regional and global stakeholders.

  • Maintaining SAP project data entries, monitoring project progress through scheduling and other tools, performing project status reporting, and controlling spending through appropriate tracking, forecasting, and adjustments.

  • Driving sustainable, innovative solutions to opportunities within the capital work process to further improve the services provided, further increasing the efficiency and predictability of capital projects.

If you...

• Hold a bachelor’s degree, or higher, in engineering (preferably Mechanical or Chemical Engineering) and professional engineering experience in a chemical / petrochemical or similar manufacturing environment (preferably both engineering and project roles).

• Have developed strong skillsets in the areas of communication, problem solving, attention to detail, ability to coordinate parallel activities, and critical-thinking for decision making.

• Possess 5+ years of relevant experience managing capital & expense projects.

• Have experience in process development (i.e. experimental chemistry, Pilot, and/or Scale-up processes).

• Enjoy team-based problem solving as you lead others to overcome technical challenges.
