The primary purpose of this position is to provide a student trainee who has been appointed to an Intern Program with on-the-job training and guidance to further student technical development. *THIS PUBLIC NOTICE COVERS ALL SUMMER HIRE STUDENT TRAINEE, GS-1599-04/05 POSITIONS FOR ALL TITLES* Responsibilities *This position is temporary and has a Not-to-Exceed date. However, this position may be extended to the fullest legally allowable period without competition. The appointment may also end early due to lack of work or funds.* GS-04 Duties: Performs selected tasks and phases of studies and projects that require application of basic theory and principles in the area of computer science. Participates with senior personnel in conducting non-routine projects. Provides assistance to senior personnel in planning, monitoring, and conducting special studies, projects, and initiatives. Uses computer science principles such as operating system theory, data structures, computer system architectures, software languages, optimization techniques and computer communications to assist senior personnel in solving software problems and facilitate the work GS-05 Duties: Performs elementary tasks, assignments, operations, or procedures for portions of difficult studies and projects by application of basic theory and principles in the technical area of computer science. Participates with senior personnel in conducting non-routine projects. Provides assistance in planning, monitoring, and conducting special studies, projects, and initiatives. Uses computer science principles such as operating system theory, data structures, computer system architectures, software languages, optimization techniques and computer communications to assist senior personnel in solving software problems and facilitate the work. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications In order to qualify, you must meet the generalized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions. Failure to submit transcripts, proof of acceptance or current enrollment in an accredited college/university will result in an ineligible rating. Qualifications GS-04: Completion of 60 semester hours or more of post high school study leading towards a qualifying degree (i.e. associate's, bachelor's, master's, etc.) GS-05: Completion of 120 semester hours or more of post high school study leading towards a qualifying degree (i.e. associate's, bachelor's, master's, etc.) REQUIRED AREA OF STUDY: Seeking a professional computer science or a related degree with a combination of mathematics, statistics and computer science. For completed educational programs or equivalent during Spring/Summer 2024, proof of acceptance or current enrollment in an accredited college/university for Fall 2024 must be provided PLEASE NOTE: This is not a developmental opportunity; this position will be filled at the GS-04 through GS-05 depending on applicant qualifications and organizational requirements. The individual selected for this position may be considered for promotion to a higher grade without further competition upon meeting all legal and regulatory/program requirements.
