Air Force Materiel Command ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN (DRAFTING) in Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a senior engineering technician in support of design and construction projects for the installation, as well as performing associated Drafting, Geographical Information System (GIS) and Surveying work. To provide "cradle to grave" technical design, construction management, and execution of base Civil Engineer projects. Responsibilities Develops, reviews, analyzes, edits, studies, implements, produces, recommends and disseminates geospatial data to support real-time presentation of geospatial data in a geographic information system (GIS) Plans, leads surveys and validates precision surveys for design, construction control, and as-built documentation using GPS and traditional techniques. Independently plans the methods to create or edit original and complex engineering designs for major contractual projects utilizing a comprehensive, practical knowledge of technical engineering design, geometric principles and computer design and drafting (CADD) software. Manages engineering records. Operates and maintains print reproduction equipment. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Experience requirements are described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, to include the Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR) for the NJ-0802-03 Engineering Technician In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Applicants must have, or within 120 days, will have 52 weeks (one year) specialized experience, equivalent to the next lower grade GS-08 in the federal service. Specialized experience is experience supporting higher level engineering technicians, engineers, or land surveyors in the planning, development, execution of complex construction projects. Land survey construction experience, practices applicable to the broad range of engineering related duties concerned with the design and development of CADD models; and Geographic Information System (GIS) technician experience. OR EDUCATION: two full years of graduate education or a master's degree that it is directly related to the work of the position. NOTE: You must submit a copy of college transcripts. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Comprehensive knowledge of symbols, terminology, and accepted standards used in engineering drawings; and the equipment, facilities, and systems of civil, mechanical, electrical, and architectural engineering disciplines using architectural/graphic design software to accomplish unusually difficult drafting assignments. 2. Comprehensive knowledge of surveying methods, equipment, and techniques in the measurement or determination of distances, elevations, areas, angles, land boundaries, and other features of the earth's surface. 3. Comprehensive knowledge of the application of GIS software to edit and manage spatial data, perform spatial analysis and produce mapping products. 4. Knowledge and ability to independently lead Survey and GIS projects that include goal setting, planning, problem solving, effective communication, motivating, integration, scope setting, scheduling, cost estimating, quality control, risk management, political sensitivity. 5. Comprehensive knowledge and ability to prepare original and edit complex drawings that are neat, accurate, appropriately dimensioned, and geo spatially arranged, utilizing the methods and techniques of drafting and GIS technicians. 6. Knowledge and ability to make mathematical computations using standardized tables and formulas. 7. Ability to communicate effectively both orally (one-on-one and in front of audiences), digitally, and in writing; maintain good working relations; provide thorough and accurate information to co-workers, customers, coordinating organizations and contractors. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
