For more information, visit amwater.com and join American Water on LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. _ Shift_ The hours for this role will be 8:00am to 4:30pm and will have a workweek of Monday through Friday. _ Examples of Job Duties_ * Responsible for proper sample collection and related laboratory or field tests. * Collect water samples from treatment plant and distribution system. * Customer communication, bottle drop off, and sample pick up with regards to lead and copper program or other WQ related. * Perform a variety of water quality analyses and reporting and serve as support for Woodridge laboratory personnel. * Pack and deliver or ship samples to appropriate laboratory. * Flush hydrants for the purpose of collecting samples. * Well operation for the purpose of collecting samples. * Other duties as assigned by management. _ Requirements_ * Ability to sit, stand, and walk for long periods of time and lift 50 lbs. * Strong work ethic, time management, and ability to conduct themselves in a professional manner are a must. * Basic understanding of general chemistry and laboratory techniques and ability to read and follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). * General knowledge of water and wastewater WQ regulatory requirements or ability to learn such concepts. * Must be able to distinguish colors to conduct testing using colorimetric methods/interpretation. * Follow all safety rules and operation procedures as established by the Company. * Mathematical aptitude to effectively perform calculations associated with the position. * The ability to learn and use computer programs, including but not limited to: Microsoft Office 360 and all active ILAM Water applications and software. * Must be available for work after business hours and during emergencies. * Physical capability to perform manual labor in all types of weather. * Must be reliable, responsible, organized, resourceful, and able to think and act promptly, all while most often working alone. * Ability to cooperate/collaborate with other operators and laboratory personnel. * Good written and verbal skills and strong problem solving and prioritizing skills. * Expected to cross-train for awareness in all service areas. * Obtain IDPH laboratory certification and re-certify every two years. _ Minimum Qualifications_ * Must possess a valid Illinois driver’s license at the class level required to operate fleet equipment associated with the job, as well as a safe driving record and the ability to pass a motor vehicle check. * Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science or related science field required. _ Competencies_ Champions safety Customer obsessed Cultivates innovation Nimble learning Drives Results Collaborates * Join American Water...We Keep Life Flowing™ * American Water is firmly committed to Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and prohibits employment discrimination for employees and applicants based on his or her age, race, color, pregnancy, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, national origin, religion, marital status, citizenship, or because they are an individual with a disability, protected veteran or other status protected by federal, state, and local laws.
