Career Opportunity:

Smurfit Westrock is an essential service provider making corrugated containers for a variety of applications. The Smurfit Westrock Winnipeg facility is looking for an Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) to work in our expanding maintenance department. This position reports to the Maintenance Supervisor and is responsible for the preventative, predictive and troubleshooting maintenance of production equipment. Red Seal Journeypersons are preferred. Apprentices are welcome to apply.

To be considered for this position, you must be able to work Monday - Friday, 8-hours per day with a weekly rotating shift; midnights 11:00 pm - 7:00 am; afternoons 3:00 pm - 11:00 pm and days 7:00 am - 3:00 pm.

All successful applicants must be able to have satisfactory criminal background check results, pre-employment medical results and a Clear Drug Test. Smurfit Westrock pays for these services.

Job Duties:

  • Troubleshoots problems on plant equipment and facilitates and determines maintenance requirements. Ability to go to root cause of problems. Perform proper follow up on repairs to implement long term solutions;

  • Responds to breakdowns on plant equipment, facilities and buildings. Ability to determine the need for temporary solutions or permanent solutions based on time constraints given by production;

  • Maintains preventative maintenance programs and ensures regular checks and lubrication on all equipment;

  • Assist in minor electrical repairs and reset safely;

  • Assists with the installation of plant equipment and occasionally assists in equipment design;

  • Good communication skills, both verbally and written;

  • Must be able to work independently and be self-directed in a demanding, fast-paced production environment, adjusting to changing priorities & roles as required;

  • Must be willing to work in a team environment;

  • Ability to balance a variable workload;

  • Flexibility to work weekends to meet business needs;

  • Daily use of electrical and mechanical skills to support 24hr production equipment;

  • Assists in the plant occupational health and safety program

What you need to work at Smurfit Westrock:

  • Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) Certification. Journeyperson preferred. Apprentices welcome to apply.

  • Previous experience in an industrial environment preferred

  • Technical knowledge

  • Positive, can-do attitude / Initiative
