The Arc Erie County NY Housing Subsidy Specialist in Williamsville, New York

The Arc Erie County New York has been supporting children and adults with disabilities, and their families in achieving their desired quality of life by creating opportunities through comprehensive services for over 65 years.

Our Position: We are currently seeking a full-time (40 hrs) Housing Subsidy Specialist to Act as a liaison between The Arc Erie County New York, OPWDD, an individual and their team to carry out the tasks necessary to attain and maintain rental subsidies.

This position also involves:

  • Coordinates with the individual’s team to complete annual recertification process including home inspections and following up on resolution of issues/concerns.

  • Review, complete, and submit packet to OPWDD, including all required documents and wage reports.

  • Monitors for changes in rent, income, utilities, household size, and any other areas that effect the subsidy amount (according to OPWDD ADM “OPWDD Housing Subsidy Program”)

Our Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm. No nights, no weekends and no holidays!

Our Rate of Pay: $25.00 per hour.

Our Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree in a Human Services field PLUS one year experience in the areas of HUD, Belmont Housing, Property Management, and/or working with individuals with developmental disabilities

OR

Associate’s Degree in a Human Services field PLUS three years’ experience in the areas of HUD, Belmont Housing, Property Management, and/or working with individuals with developmental disabilities

OR

High School or equivalent diploma PLUS five years’ experience in the areas of HUD, Belmont Housing, Property Management, and/or working with individuals with developmental disabilities

It is essential that the Community Support Specialist have good communication skills – both oral and written. Must have the ability to work alone and with others.

A valid New York State Driver’s License and approved driving record. Ownership or access to an insured car in good operating condition is preferred.

Position Summary:

Acts as a liaison between The Arc Erie County New York, OPWDD, an individual and their team to carry out the tasks necessary to attain and maintain rental subsidies.

Reporting Relationship:

Receives direct supervision from the Coordinator of Community Supports & Services.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Obtain housing packet through referral process.

  • Review, complete, and submit packet to OPWDD, including all required documents and wage reports.

  • Coordinates with the individual’s team to complete annual recertification process including home inspections and following up on resolution of issues/concerns.

  • Communicate between state and team regarding changes/updates/concerns with rental subsidy.

  • Maintain positive, professional relationship between agency, teams and OPWDD.

  • Work with individuals and their team to collect all necessary documents relating to rental subsidy application.

  • Follow up on any additional requests from OPWDD.

  • Works with fiscal department to ensure that rental checks are sent out within required timeframes.

  • Work to increase program enrollment to meet agency targeted budget.

  • Monitors any changes throughout the year, and amends budget as needed.

  • Completes all necessary documentation.

  • Maintains subsidy amounts for ISS per contracted amount.

  • Coordinates monthly contacts and documents in secure documentation program.

  • Meets regularly with OPWDD housing subsidy liaison.

  • Monitors for changes in rent, income, utilities, household size, and any other areas that effect the subsidy amount (according to OPWDD ADM “OPWDD Housing Subsidy Program”)

  • Transports individuals as needed to complete recertification and/or stipend process.

  • Completes any other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree in a Human Services field PLUS one year experience in the areas of HUD, Belmont Housing, Property Management, and/or working with individuals with developmental disabilities

  • Human Relations Skills:

The ability to communicate with individuals in a positive manner. Receive supervision instruction in a positive manner. Adhere to and administer Agency’s policies, procedures, rules and regulations. Maintain a professional attitude and appearance at all times.

  • Equipment Operation:

The ability to operate computer, copier, fax machine.
