Description/Job Summary

The Parenting education Program provides in-home services to parents/families residing in Luzerne County, referred by Luzerne County Children and Youth, to prevent abuse, neglect, and possible dependency/placement of children outside their home. The program also assists in facilitating a smooth transition for children who had previously been placed and have an imminent date of return. These families may simultaneously be court ordered to attend. The program provided education designed to address the specific needs of the family as well as concerns identify by children and youth. Areas addressed may include, developmental stages, safety, bonding and attachment, communication, limit setting etc. The program goals are to enhance existing parental strengths and to develop knowledge and techniques that will strengthen parent's protective capabilities and promote health interactions.

Responsibilities/Duties

Administrative

  • The caseworker will comply with Catholic Social Services policies and procedures,

    and established regulations

  • The caseworker will maintain consistent and positive connections with contract

    providers and other community agencies.

  • Direct Case management

    • The caseworker will provide case management duties offering in-home parenting educational instruction and basic life skills to prevent abuse, neglect and possible dependency/placement of the children.
  • The caseworker will obtain information from Luzerne County Children and Youth on the families in identifying areas of concerns related to parenting issues.

  • The caseworker will work cooperatively with other social service agencies, courts, and Children and Youth in planning to meet the needs of clients and will assist the clients in utilizing their resources.

  • The caseworker will meet formally weekly or biweekly with their direct supervisor to discuss program cases etc.

  • The caseworker will perform related duties as requested or assigned.

  • The caseworker will ensure that all documentation is completed professionally, effectively, and in a timely fashion to be reviewed by their immediate supervisor.

  • The caseworker will undergo an evaluation of job performance on a yearly basis.

Required Qualifications This position requires:

  • a minimum Bachelor's Degree in social work, or related fields.

  • valid PA drivers license and insurance;

  • PA State Police, ChildLine, and FBI background checks prior to beginning employment;

  • VIRTUS (employer provided) training

  • any training required to complete all paperwork as directed by program policies and procedures
