Position Title: Financial & Energy Coach Lead (F/ECL)
Department: Economic Development (ED)
Supervisor: Special Projects Director (SPD) (in partnership with Capstone C.A.)
Job Classification: Full Time / Non-Exempt (40 hours)
Job Objectives and Job Summary:
Assists participants to increase financial well-being and self-sufficiency via credit building, debt
reduction, saving strategies, and budgeting through 1:1 counseling / coaching and group classroom
training; with an emphasis on providing the tools and resources to help clients make informed and fiscally
responsible decisions and investments that reduce their overall spending and household expenses with
money-saving opportunities. Participates in agency training, statewide training, continuing education,
and collaboration efforts with peers throughout the state. Establish or strengthen partnerships with
ReachUp, HireAbility, community justice centers, local financial institutions, other organizations or
institutions, and intra-agency programs contributing to training and counseling for participants. Marketing
the availability of the program, and provide newsletters, press releases, or other communications about
program activities. Attend program-related events to represent SEVCA and the Financial & Energy
Coaching programming. Verify and document client eligibility for services; provide appropriate referrals
to other complementary agency or partner services; maintain client data and submit required client
participation / progress reports in a timely manner to the agency, state and grantors. Data enters client
information into agency CAP60 data base, tracks and generates quarterly CSBG reports and provides to
Special Projects Director, state agency, grantor. Collaborates with Special Projects Director in the
planning, evaluation, and assessment of efficiency for services delivered to clients through program
activities.
Qualifications:
1. B.A. degree, preferably in financial management, community development, human services, planning, or
community organizing, or an AA and nationally recognized accreditation in Financial Counseling or
Financial Coaching. Two years relevant experience can be substituted for the degree.
2. Knowledge of and experience with budgeting, credit building, debt reduction, savings, student loans,
and general personal money management.
3. Experience with coaching, counseling or similar 1:1 direct service provision and group facilitation and
training.
4. Strong financial counseling / coaching and credit building skills and/or demonstrated proficiency in
financial management and working with clients on personal finance desirable, or an interest in and
aptitude for personal finance and willingness to learn.
5. Commitment to reducing the effects of climate change on marginalized communities in Vermont.
6. Demonstrated sensitivity to the challenges faced by people living with low incomes.
7. Experience in marketing and public relations or community outreach desirable.
8. Excellent written and oral communications skills.
9. Proficiency in Microsoft Office products and database management systems.
10. Demonstrated ability to represent the agency, work as part of a team, and under direction.
11. Must have reliable transportation and current valid drivers license, and be able to work a flexible
schedule including some evenings and weekends.
