Planet Technologies Sr. Database Developer in Washington, District Of Columbia
Planet Technologies, the Nation’s leading Microsoft services provider to the public sector, is looking for a highly motivated individual to join our growing team as a Sr. Database Developer. In this role, you will be supporting impactful project that make a difference for our country.
Responsibilities
This role is a mix of DB Developer and DBA. Must be flexible and able to complete both aspects, i.e. DB Developer/DBA.
Responsible for the design, programming, construction, and implementation of new databases, as well as modifying existing databases for platform updates and changes in user needs - we use SQL and Postgres.
Control DBs by monitoring and approving DB changes or new development
Monitoring and automating indexes to keep DB high performance
Understands Azure or AWS managed SQL Servers
Works closely with Azure Engineer
Skills Required
Proficient in Structured Query Language (SQL) and have a strong understanding of SQL commands and syntax to write efficient and effective queries, create and modify database schemas and structures, and perform data manipulation tasks.
Proficient in database design principles, including normalization and indexing, to create database structures that are efficient, scalable, and optimized for performance. Able to use data modeling tools to visually represent and document database schemas.
Expert in C# programming languages. Able to integrate databases with web applications, automate data processing tasks, and build custom database applications. Have experience working with object-relational mapping framework such as Entity Framework Core or Dapper to retrieve and manipulate data using C#.
Have experience working with different DBMS platforms, such as SQL Server, MySQL, and PostgreSQL. Familiar with the features and capabilities of these systems, as well as best practices for database administration and optimization.
Must have strong understanding of data security principles and best practices, including encryption, access controls, and data masking techniques.
Strong problem-solving skills and be able to troubleshoot and resolve issues related to database performance, data integrity, and security.
Specialization in cloud-based database solutions, such as Azure SQL Database is highly desirable. Nice to have Azure Database Administrator Associate certificate.
Knowledge of building CI/CD pipelines for Azure SQL Database, highly desirable. Familiarity with tools like Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, and capability to automate workflows and streamline data lifecycle.
Excellent communication skills and a team player is a must. Collaborate with other developers and business stakeholders to design and implement database solutions. Able to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences and elicit requirements from end users.
