Robert Half Senior Grants Accountant in Washington, District Of Columbia

Description

Our client, a prestigious non-profit organization, is searching for their Senior Grants Accountant. In this role, you will support a dynamic and talented Director of FP& A by managing and reporting on both federal and non-federal awards. This remote position, which will be based in Washington DC, will encompass various responsibilities, including monitoring funding sources and preparing financial status reports. You will also collaborate with program teams and offer guidance to program staff on spending trends, contribute to zero-based budget modeling and forecasting, and conduct monthly variance grant analysis.

In this challenging Senior Grants Accountant role, you will:

  • Prepare and maintain grant budgets for planning, forecasting, and monthly reporting.

  • Collaborate with the Director of FP& A on zero-based budget modeling when required.

  • Generate monthly and quarterly grant reports, identifying and investigating budget variances, trends, and unusual items. Communicate analysis to program teams and the Director of FP& A.

  • Establish project tracking and review systems, ensuring timely updates to management and staff on project progress.

  • Maintain grant proposal budget templates and review/analyze budgets included in proposal submissions, working closely with program managers.

  • Analyze spending trends in relation to the negotiated indirect cost rate agreement.

  • Review subaward budgets and agreements.

  • Prepare monthly revenue recognition entries, including the release of restricted funds.

  • Assist in processing Federal draws and prepare the annual Schedule of Federal Awards.

  • Interpret federal, state, and local government laws and regulations regarding grant administration, demonstrating extensive knowledge of 2 CFR 200.

  • Set up new awards and projects in general ledger and budgeting systems, coordinating with HR for inclusion in timesheets.

  • Collaborate with professionals at all levels, providing timely and collaborative responses to inquiries.

  • Support the annual audit by preparing schedules and reconciliations.

  • Manage the net asset schedule and other reconciliation schedules as requested.

  • Complete all organizational administrative responsibilities promptly and meet all organizational administrative deadlines.

  • Perform additional ad hoc duties as assigned.

Requirements

Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business, or related field plus 4+ years of related experience.

  • Experience federal grants accounting and management processes including revenue recognition, cost principles, financial reporting, and invoicing/payment draws.

  • Knowledge of federal grant regulations, including 2 CFR 200 and FAR.

  • Proficiency with financial systems including Sage Intacct, Workday, and Salesforce.
