The VP, Operational Excellence, Global Operations & Supply Chain, provides leadership and strategic direction to accelerate the rate of continuous improvement through the deployment of Medtronic Performance System (MPS) across the Enterprise. This leadership position will develop and deploy strategies that drives standardization, harness continuous improvement to reduce variability, drive zero loss, reduce lead-time, increase efficiency and improve customer value in order to better fulfill our mission and materially improve the key financial and operating metrics.

The VP, Operational Excellence is a passionate transformation and change agent focused on achieving measurable and sustainable results through the implementation of MPS. This senior leadership position will develop and cascade a Continuous Improvement program to drive meaningful impact to the business through leading, managing and coaching the Operational Excellence team.

This position will report directly to the SVP Global Manufacturing and have oversight of both direct and matrix of all Operations Excellence activities for Global Manufacturing, Direct Suppliers, Contract Manufacturers and also provides OpEx services, consultation and ultimately support for Medtronic Operating Units and functional groups.

A Day in the Life

*Create Operational Excellence strategy for GOSC including Supply Chain, Supply Management, Operations Innovation and Contract Manufacturing to materially improve key financial and operating metrics

*Provides functional leadership for all Operational Excellence resources across GOSC (160+)

  • Collaborate with Operations Innovation to achieve programmatic savings target, shared across strategic OI projects and ensure in-plant saving projects funnels are robust, and implementation of MPS and workflow maturity

*Manage University training programs and content for Greenbelt, Blackbelt and Master Black Belt programs, tracking progress and retraining needs, and tracking ongoing savings from certified belt holders.

  • Align to the strategy and policy deployment process and working with Strategy Enablement team to implement program to align organization on critical performance indicators while simultaneously driving breakthrough objectives and owning defined ADPs

  • Develop and implement strategies to integrate Lean and Continuous Improvement across each Tier levels.

  • Lead, coordinate and manage resources and direct reports to implement plans, kaizens and KTMs that result in significant process changes, improvements and execution of OpEx Program.

  • Build Lean Manufacturing expertise in the organization and lead lean transformations at internal manufacturing sites and suppliers

  • Initiate deployment (A3s) activities to ensure that improvement actions are directly linked to the strategic and tactical objectives of Medtronic and the business unit, emphasizing efficiency and effectiveness of business processes, and enabling breakthrough process changes and improvements.

  • Influence, lead, and coordinate cross-functional team of diverse stakeholders to deliver expected results on-time and on-budget

  • Coordinate, communicate horizontal deployment of Continuous Improvement successes and best practices.

  • Facilitate, train, and teach Lean tools and techniques. Develop and share new tools and techniques to improve Lean effectiveness.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and 15+ years of progressive leadership experience in driving continuous improvement OR Master’s Degree and 13+ years of progressive leadership experience in driving continuous improvement and business transformation.

• 5+ years working in a Manufacturing environment

• 10 years of managerial experience, which should include at least:

o 5+ years of Program Management experience

o 5+ years People Management experience

• Lean or Six Sigma training to Black Belt or higher

Previous experience cascading a OpEx program and driving meaningful impact to the business 7+ years Program Management experience

The provided base salary range is used nationally in the United States (except in Puerto Rico). Base pay is based on numerous factors and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, etc.
