The Department of Bio l o g y at Texas A&M University is responsible for research and teaching within the vast disciplines of the bio l o g ical sciences, from molecular cell bio l o g y to ecology and evolutionary bio l o g y . What We Want

The Technician I will be responsible for daily laboratory preparation of Biology laboratory courses serving 3000 students per semester. The selected candidate will help with the planning and supervising of technical operations. They will also assist personnel involved in lab preparation and oversee the quality assurance and quality control of all reagents and solutions made for laboratory experiments. What You Need to Know

Salary: Compensation will be commensurate based on the selected candidate's education and experience.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • One year in scientific research, clinical, operational, or experiential work experience

Preferred Licenses and Certifications:

  • First Aid training and CPR certification

  • AED training

Responsibilities

  • LAB CHEMICALS: Prepares solutions, weighs, measures, and dispenses chemicals, labels secondary containers. Prepares other lab materials.

  • CLASS MATERIAL PREP: Sets up and tears down experimental apparatus and teaching demonstrations in labs. Curates preserved specimens. Prepares dissection tissues and arranges for lab demonstrations.

  • CLASS PREP: Laminates charts, posters, and information cards used in labs and presentations. Assists staff, faculty and graduate teaching assistants as needed. Assists administrative operations as needed.

  • CLEANING: Cleans prep areas, labs, cold rooms, autoclaves, lab equipment. Notifies supervisors of lab room maintenance needs.

  • MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR: Performs routine maintenance and repair of lab equipment. Transports departmental supplies and equipment as needed.

  • EXAM PREP: Sets up lab practical exams for Biology 111, 112, 113, and Zoology 107.

  • SPECIMEN PREP: Maintains live organisms and cultures for lab use and performs other duties as assigned.
