Who we are

Aca d emi c and Business Per f ormance Analytics (ABPA) collects and submits data to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB), the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS), and many ranking surveys such as U.S. News, Kiplinger’s, Peterson’s, and Barron’s. ABPA also provides student, course and f aculty data through various reports and online data dashboards f or the university administration and other stakeholders .

The Data Analyst, under general supervision, gathers, compiles, analyzes, interprets, reports data and identifies patterns.

Salary: $69,190.00

Position Details: Must work a minimum of 40 hours a week. We expect employees to work 8-5 M-F, with some flexibility with start/stop times as long as the 40-hour minimum is maintained

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Three years of related experience in data collection and analysis.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Basic SQL skills, word processing, Excel spreadsheet, and SQL Server database applications.

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in higher education.

  • General experience in data management, data dashboard creation, SQL and statistical and analytical skills.

  • Experience working with SQL to load and update data to existing databases.

  • Familiarity with relational database design and modern data warehousing techniques.

Essential Duties/Tasks

Processing Data

  • Runs scripts to load and transform data needed by department for reporting.

  • This will include each semester class days data processing and produce CBM reports submitting to Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB).

  • Uses SQL tools to manipulate, analyze, clean and transform data.

  • Runs processes during key data acquisition dates.

Ad-hoc Reporting

  • Responds to data requests by querying various databases. Collects, analyzes and interprets data, both quantitative and qualitative analyses, using accepted statistical methods and qualitative research methods.

  • Determines best tool for the request including Tableau, Excel, SQL queries, COGNOS, ARGOS, SAS, SPSS, etc.

  • In some cases, reporting requires acquisition, cleaning and transforming of new data to merge with other data sets.

  • Compiles data into usable reports.

Routine Reporting

  • Collects data and produces routine reports needed by other colleges and/or department every semester/year.

  • Uses SQL tools to pull data and statistical tools to present the output.

Skills Development

  • Participates in training and professional development to stay current on tools, skills and methodologies related to job duties.

Other Duties

  • Performs other duties as assigned and which may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Collaboration with the data warehouse team to migrate data into new Enterprise Data Warehouse, assignment and participation in university committees, attending University community meetings as required Restrictions and Other
