Liberty Latin America Senior Manager of Legal and Regulatory Affairs, Dutch Caribbean in United States

This is a rare opportunity to bring your hard-earned legal experience to take on a dynamic, fast-moving and commercially focussed leadership role. Cable & Wireless Communications, or CWC, is part of Liberty Latin America, a leading telecoms and cable TV operator with operations in countries across the Caribbean and Latin America. CWC’s Dutch Caribbean business is recruiting a Senior Manager of Legal & Regulatory Affairs to lead their legal and regulatory team based in Curacao and Sint Maarten.

You will be part of an enthusiastic, supportive and close-knit team, responsible for providing legal and regulatory support with respect to a broad range of commercial, litigation, employment, corporate and regulatory matters relating to our Dutch Caribbean business.

You will be proactive, solutions-oriented and adept at engaging across functions, whilst providing best in class divisional legal business partnering to the senior divisional stakeholders, directing key initiatives across a broad range of matters, analysing complex legal, commercial and regulatory issues, challenging the business, developing strategies, creating tangible improvements in business performance and communicating legal and regulatory advice constructively and succinctly.

What you'll do:

  • Leading and guiding the legal and regulatory team.

  • Providing top-quality legal support on commercial, corporate, litigation, employment, regulatory, corporate governance, and compliance matters.

  • Handling a variety of legal, regulatory, corporate and employment matters at the Company.

  • Advising on corporate governance matters relating to local legal requirements.

  • Keeping abreast of new legislation and current industry trends and regulatory matters which impact the company and advising key stakeholders on the same.

  • Engaging with Government stakeholders in the Dutch Caribbean.

  • Advising the company of any matters which affects its business operations and/or operating licences where applicable and ensure its compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, agreements and licences.

  • Working closely with senior leaders and business partners across the business to advise them on navigating and managing legal, regulatory and compliance risks and Group governance requirements.

  • Managing outside counsel and consultants on litigation, commercial negotiations and regulatory issues to maximize performance and achievement of business objectives.

  • Engagement with key stakeholders, including regulators, vendors, customers and outside counsel.

  • Developing an intuitive and practical understanding of the risks and requirements of your business partners within Cable & Wireless and Liberty Latin America.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • A Master degree in Dutch law.

  • Minimum of 10 years’ relevant legal and/ or regulatory experience.

  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years’ experience in managing a team.

  • Familiar with the operations and procedures of the Courts in the Netherlands and/ or Dutch Caribbean.

  • Required to speak English and Dutch and preference for Papiamento

  • Demonstrated ability as a senior department legal advisor to help build consensus among disparate interests to achieve business goals.

  • Excellent technical legal skills, including litigation, advocacy, contract negotiation and drafting.

  • Strong working knowledge of broad range of legal practice areas including contracting, litigation, employment, real estate and intellectual property issues.

  • Demonstrated ability to move complex legal issues and projects through a corporate organization from conception through implementation.

  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.

  • Strong business acumen and analytical skills.

  • Experience working in a regulated sector.

  • Experience in developing markets, particularly the Caribbean, would be viewed favourably but is not essential.

  • Must be reliable, have high ethical and professional standards.

  • Ability to manage projects and assignments requiring independent judgement.

  • Ability to secure sound commercial outcomes.
