Job Description

The Research Associate performs independent or supervisory roles in research activities requiring an advanced level of knowledge in plant breeding and genetics related routine activities. These research activities are predominantly intellectual and varied in character and require consistent use of discretion and judgment. Provide supportive data for proposals for funding agencies, operate research equipment, supervise graduate students and other lab/field personnel in research. Support the various research projects conducted in the wheat genetic team. Follow protocols to conduct research activities on DNA extraction, PCR, high throughput genotyping, and wheat doubled haploid process.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design, plan, conduct and coordinate experiments in support of various research projects in wheat genetics

  • Evaluate, select, and apply standard techniques of routine research; keep detailed records of data.

  • Use computers and laboratory or technical equipment to perform data analysis, statistical analysis, and technical evaluation of research experiments and results

  • Summarize results for inclusion in scientific and clientele-oriented publications.

  • Prepare and write proposals to funding agencies; maintain financial accounts related to research projects.

  • Supervise undergraduate and/or graduate students and other laboratory, technical or field staff involved in research.

  • Install, operate and/or repair research equipment.

Additional Responsibilities

Order research related materials and appliances for the lab, greenhouse, growth room and chamber, and field. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in biology or plant science.

2 years experiences in biology or plant science.

Preferred Education and Experience

MS degree preferred.

Prefer professional experience in wheat genetics and breeding related research.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Familiar with wheat genetics laboratory and/or technical equipment. Ability to effectively utilize a computer and applicable software to create databases, perform statistical analyses, present data and perform other computer related tasks. Ability to conduct multi tasks and work cooperatively with others.
