What we want
The School of Dentistry is looking for a Research Assistant or Research Associate to serve in the Orthodontics department. We desire an individual who subscribes to and supports our commitment as stated above. The successful applicant will bring a vast amount of skill, knowledge and managerial experience to the position and will understand the demands of working in a fast-paced research environment. This person must be professional, enjoy working in a high-volume environment and be able to apply an advanced level of knowledge in research while being flexible in their daily routine. What you need to know
Work Schedule/Location: This is an on-site role with a typical schedule of Monday – Friday 8am to 5pm.

Required Qualifications*
Our current needs are for a Research Assistant or Research Associate.
Minimum qualifications for a Research Assistant: Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
Minimum qualifications for a Research Associate: Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience and two years of lab working experience in a full-time position.
- Compensation and classification is based on the analyses of the above qualifications during the recruitment process.
Preferred Qualifications
Two years of related professional experience
Knowledge of laboratory maintenance and equipment. Knowledge of computers and computer software related to the position
Familiarity with appropriate laboratory and/or technical equipment
Ability to effectively utilize a computer and applicable software to create databases, perform statistical analyses, present data and perform other computer related tasks
Ability to multi task and work cooperatively with others
Responsibilities:
Research - Perform independent roles in research activities requiring an advanced level of knowledge and require consistent use of discretion and judgment. Evaluates, selects and applies best practices towards the techniques used for research efforts and maintains accurate and detailed record of data.
Experiments - Designs, plans and conducts experiments in support of various research project to include: Nucleic Acids: Southern/Northern blotting, in situ hybridization, protection assays/PCR, sequencing Proteins, Immunology: chromatography, immunohistochemistry, Western blot/electrophoresis, second messenger signaling essays.
Tissue dissection - Organ culture/Microscopy: maintenance/manipulations of organ cultures, micro-dissection of tissues, fluorescence/confocal/electron microscopy, image analysis/photography, histological preparation of tissues.
