Job Description
Purpose:
The Alge Lab at Texas A&M University (TAMU) has openings for two Postdoctoral Researchers to work on the development of polymer technologies to stabilize biological samples against extreme environmental conditions. The individuals hired for these positions will work under the PI’s guidance to synthesize and characterize novel materials and test their efficacy. Due to the nature of the project, applicants should have strong skills in synthesis and characterization of polymeric materials. Experience with hydrogels, stimulus-responsive materials, and cells is also desirable.
Responsibilities:
Synthesize and functionalize hydrogel precursors
Characterize structure and properties of materials
Provide materials for biological testing and assist with testing as appropriate
Maintain records
Prepare reports and presentations
Prepare abstracts and present at meetings
Prepare manuscripts for submission to scientific journals
Mentor junior lab members
Perform other duties as assigned.
What we need:
- Ph.D. in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science and engineering, biomedical engineering, or a related field.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Organic chemistry and synthesis methods
Characterization of polymeric materials
Proficiency in data processing, analysis, and technical presentation
Excellent organizational and data management skills
Ability to work cooperatively with others.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Synthesis and functionalization of polymers
Stimulus-responsive materials
Hydrogels
Cell culture (preferably microbial)
Intracellular delivery
