Job Description

Postdoctoral Research Associate to join an NIH-funded interdisciplinary research project focused on social media use and mental health of racially/ethnically minoritized adolescents (Project Number 1R01MH136979-01).

Led by Dr. Jun Wang https://alec.tamu.edu/people/wang-jun/), this project will employ advanced research methods to explore how social media experiences and mental health evolve and influence each other across daily to yearly timeframes. The ultimate goal of the project is to promote positive development among minoritized youth through healthy use of social media while minimizing its potential harm.

Job Duties:

  • Design and lead the training of graduate and undergraduate research assistants; recruitment of participants; data collection; and data analysis.

  • Produce academic and non-academic publications that effectively communicate the research to diverse audiences. Assist with writing reports and reviewing and revising draft manuscripts and other written products.

  • Support the development of youth advisory board and the collaboration with community partners.

  • Represent the Project Team at external meetings and conferences.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Psychology, Developmental Sciences, Social Anthropology, Sociology, Communication, Public Health or a related field focusing on digital life and mental health.

Required Special Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders and ability to translate research findings into actionable insights for academic and public audiences.

-Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary assistance to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments within given parameters.

  • Strong attention to detail, with a proven ability to handle multiple responsibilities at one time, successfully prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.

-Ability to multi task and work cooperatively with others.

Preferred Special Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:

  • Extensive experience in quantitative and qualitative research design and methods, psychological/ developmental/social media research, and engaging culturally varied populations

  • Strong quantitative data analysis skills with statistical software (e.g., Mplus SPSS, Stata, R)

  • Advanced skills in qualitative research methods, preferably with experience in ethnographic fieldwork

  • Ability to lead interdisciplinary teams and manage complex research projects effectively; ability to work collaboratively with both junior and senior researchers, professionals, volunteers, adolescents and caregivers in a culturally appropriate manner

  • Strong record of scientific writing/publications

This is a grant funded position.
