What We Want

The Postdoctoral Research Associate will take on exciting computational, experimental, or combined projects at the Chakraborty lab. The Chakraborty lab specializes in utilizing cutting-edge experimental and computational methods to investigate the impact of genetic variation, particularly genome structural changes, on heritable traits and adaptations. The computational projects will involve evolutionary and functional genomics using a reference pangenome based on highly contiguous genome assemblies (e.g., doi : 10.1038/s41467-019-12884-1). Additionally, the experimental project will focus on pioneering CRISPR-Cas9 based functional and fitness assays in Drosophila. As a Postdoctoral Research Associate, you will also receive support to pursue independent research projects. If the description sounds exciting to you, we invite you to apply to be considered for this opportunity to join our team.

What You Need to Know

Salary: Compensation will be commensurate based on the selected candidate’s education and experience.

Special Note: Due to this position’s salary having all or a portion of it being funded by grants or contracts, the continuing salary and overall employment is contingent upon availability of these funds in the future.

Required Education and Experience :

  • Appropriate PhD

  • No experience is required

    Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Ph.D. in Genetics/Genomics/Bioinformatics/ Evolutionary Biology or any relevant areas of Biology

  • Experience in model organism genetics, Drosophila genetics, evolutionary genetics, or genomics

  • Experimental design in genetics or genomics and evidence of at least one research paper (either preprint or published in a peer-reviewed journal)

  • Prior molecular genetics, computational, and/or evolutionary genomics experience

  • Experience in complex trait mapping or quantitative genetics

  • Experience in CRISPR and/or experimental evolution

Responsibilities:

  • Research: Designs experiments and collects and analyzes experimental data. The postdoctoral researcher will design and work on computational and wet lab projects. The computational projects will involve genome assembly using long reads and detection and functional annotation of naturally occurring

  • Documentation: Create d ocumentation compatible with reproducible research and writing papers. The postdoctoral researcher will document all wet lab data and analysis in a laboratory notebook and computational data in the laboratory or on an external (e.g., GitHub) server compatible with reproducible research. The researcher will also document the research outcomes by writing papers following the best practices for reproducible research.
