What We Want

The Postdoctoral Research Associate will contribute to cutting-edge projects focused on post-transcriptional regulation of RNA and biomolecular condensation during cellular stress, cancer and viral infection. In addition to research activities, the Postdoctoral Research Associate will be responsible for working collaboratively with other researchers, training other lab personnel, maintaining an accurate laboratory notebook, writing manuscripts, presenting findings, and contributing to grant proposals. What You Need to Know

Salary: Compensation will be commensurate based on the selected candidate’s education and experience.

Special Note: Due to this position's salary having all or a portion of it being funded by grants or contracts, the continuing salary and overall employment is contingent upon availability of these funds in the future.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Appropriate Ph.D. in a natural science, engineering, or related field

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to build a positive work environment and be helpful, respectful, approachable, and team-oriented

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Experience with at least one computer programming language (R, python, etc)

  • At least one first-authored research publication in a scientific journal

  • Experience in molecular biology, including standard molecular cloning techniques

  • Experience with biochemical techniques (western blotting, nucleic acid extraction, immunoprecipitation etc)

  • Expertise in one of the following areas: cancer cell biology, virology, RNA biology, proteostasis, next-generation sequencing, mass spectrometry, bioinformatics, computational biology, soft matter chemistry, biophysics

    Responsibilities:

Laboratory Research Experiments: Carry out experiments to test the project’s hypotheses. This includes various molecular biology assays like DNA, RNA, and protein extraction from various mammalian samples/tissues, RT-PCR, qPCR, Next-Generation sequencing library generation, Western blot, cloning, in vitro protein expression and biophysics, and microscopy. Research activities may span cell biology, synthetic biology, biochemistry and biophysics, with the overarching goal of trying to develop a holistic understanding of cellular adaptation to stress and infection, from biophysical first principles to functional phenotypes.

Data Analysis and Notebook Reporting: Perform analysis of experimental data including, if appropriate, bioinformatic analysis using a High-Performance Research Computing cluster. Clearly report experimental design and results in a lab notebook and generates figures for presentation in lab meetings and for external presentations.

Participation in Common Lab Duties: Assist with maintaining a clean and productive workspace environment. Train new lab members on various techniques and works collaboratively.

Research Dissemination and Grant Writing: Write up research into publishable manuscripts and assist in writing grants to continue to fund the research and position.
