Job Description

Job Opportunity: Postdoctoral Research Associate in Agricultural Sciences, Agronomy, or Environmental Sciences with a strong background in process-based modeling.

Job Description:

Texas A&M AgriLife Research, located in Temple, Texas, is seeking a postdoctoral research associate. We seek an innovative and highly motivated candidate to contribute to enhancing and evaluating soil organic carbon (SOC) and greenhouse gas (GHG) emission modeling in the multi-scale EPIC/APEX/SWAT agroecosystem models for climate and conservation assessment.

Responsibilities:

  • Acquire observational data from multiple sources, including field experiments such as long-term agricultural research (LTAR) sites, GRACENET sites, USDA Agricultural Resource Management Survey (ARMS), and the USDA CEAP project to produce datasets to integrate and/or assimilate into the models.

  • Support improving and evaluating carbon cycling pathways, including CH4 emissions in the agroecosystem models.

  • Work closely with the CEAP Modeling Team of the USDA-NRCS Resource Inventory and Assessment Division Resource Assessment Branch to assess conservation and management impacts on SOC and GHG emissions, such as CO2, N2O, and CH4.

  • Coordinate collaboration with USDA-ARS scientists and other participants in the IRA-funded Interagency Conservation Practices Data Team.

  • Assess the quantitative benefits of selected conservation practices on SOC sequestration and GHG emission by applying enhanced agroecosystem models.

  • Conduct literature review and report/ and publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Ph.D. degree in Agricultural Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Soil and Crop Sciences, Earth and Environmental Sciences, or related fields emphasizing agroecosystem modeling and assessment.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated publication record in agroecosystem modeling and analysis.

  • Interdisciplinary teamwork skills with researchers across different disciplines.

  • Flexibility to perform work in a team or individually with supervision.

  • Good communication, interpersonal skills, professionalism, and competency.

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficient understanding of agroecosystem, watershed hydrology, soil-plant-water relations, and soil carbon dynamics.

  • Prior solid experience with process-based models, particularly EPIC/APEX/SWAT, DayCent, or DNDC agroecosystem models.

  • Proficiency in computer programming, such as scripting using Python, Fortran, or other computing tools for data processing and modeling.

Other Factors:

This position is grant funded and availability is contingent on grant funding. Initial appointments and extensions are subject to performance and funding availability.

All positions are security-sensitive.
