Job Summary:

The Outdoor Pursuits Boat Driver/Instructor plays a crucial role in delivering the Cliffs experience to Members, Guests of Members, and Discovery Guests at the Keowee Springs Beach Club and Surf Shop. This position encompasses various responsibilities including watersports instruction, boat driving, surf shop operations, beach club operations, and lifeguard supervision. The focus is on maintaining a warm, welcoming environment while ensuring safety and providing an exceptional experience for all visitors.

Job Duties:

  • Greet all members and guests warmly and promptly.

  • Provide courteous and sincere attention to members, guests, and staff.

  • Maintain positive relationships with members, guests, and staff.

  • Validate member or guest status and ensure waivers are up-to-date.

  • Execute opening, in-shift, and closing procedures efficiently.

  • Assist with general facility organization and cleanliness.

  • Provide information on outdoor pursuits schedules and assist with registration.

  • Demonstrate safe boating procedures and assist with boat rentals.

  • Maintain watercraft and boats, including fueling, cleaning, and maintenance.

  • Deliver expert instruction on watersports activities.

  • Conduct lake tours and cruises, providing information about the area.

  • Assist with sales and marketing of outdoor pursuits activities.

  • Demonstrate proper equipment usage and safety standards.

  • Brief participants on safety regulations at the Surf Shop.

  • Provide certified lifeguard supervision at the Beach Club slide pool.

  • Test chemical levels of pools daily and notify management of any issues.

  • Assist members in case of accidents and coordinate emergency services if needed.

  • Maintain appearance of Beach Club, Surf Shop, and beach areas.

  • File waivers and assist with administrative tasks.

  • Lead, plan, and deliver outdoor programs and events.

  • Maintain a positive attitude, work ethic, and appearance.

  • Anticipate and address needs during busy and slow hours.

  • Provide hands-on instruction for kayak and paddleboard techniques if required.

  • Rotate between Surf Shop, beach, and dock areas.

  • Perform other assigned duties as needed.

  • Uphold Cliffs' standards, procedures, and core values.

  • Continuously build knowledge of local flora, fauna, and history.

  • Willingness to work weekends and holidays.

Background/Experience:

  • First-Aid/CPR/AED certification required.

  • Lifeguard certification preferred.

  • Boating license/experience required.

  • Experience in watersports instruction preferred.

  • Wilderness First-Aid certification preferred.

  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.

  • Problem-solving skills to ensure member satisfaction.

  • Willingness to learn new skills.
