Job Description

This search is for one (1) 9-month assistant or associate professor appointment in the Department of Educational Leadership & Counseling. The search will start immediately and end no later than June 1, 2024, so onboarding and training can occur before the Fall 2024 term starts and the start date of September 1.

Salary:

Commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinating the School Counseling and Guidance (EDCG) Program.

  • Teach field practicum for certified school counselor candidates to ensure compliance with Texas certification regulations.

  • Advise, mentor, and supervise students.

  • Conduct virtual site observations for school counseling practicum students at their assigned practicum site.

  • Lead with a vision to develop and enhance programs in the department.

  • Build a strong program aligned with the University’s mission as a Hispanic-serving institution.

  • Address the educational needs of students.

  • Collaborate with colleagues and sustain a collegial environment to fulfill the needs and meet strategic goals of the department, college, and university.

  • Actively participate in service to programmatic, departmental, college, and university committees.

  • Attend required in-person meetings on campus every semester and periodic virtual programmatic, departmental, college, and university meetings.

  • Teach 4/4 load. Summer courses are provided but are not guaranteed.

  • One course release for the 1st year (new faculty investment program)

  • Attend weekly on-campus meetings for the 1st year as required by the new faculty investment program.

  • Be available during regular business hours to interact in a timely manner with campus staff, the department chair, and program colleagues.

Qualifications:

  • Certified School Counselor (CSC) in any U.S. state

  • Currently fully licensed LPC/LMHC/LMFT in the U.S. Please include your license number.

  • Earned doctorate in Counselor Education from a CACREP-accredited institution or Rehabilitation, if earned before January 1, 2018

  • 18 graduate hours for every field taught from a regionally accredited institution.

  • Evidence of teaching excellence in a hybrid or an online delivery format.

  • Evidence of ability to establish and maintain a research agenda.

  • Credentials sufficient to be an Assistant/Associate/Full Professor based on the College of Education and Human Performance Tenure and Promotion guidelines at Texas A&M University-Kingsville.

Department of Educational Leadership and Counseling:

The Department of Educational Leadership & Counseling is housed in the College of Education & Human Performance at Texas A&M University-Kingsville (TAMUK), a Hispanic-serving institution. The department, with 11 full-time faculty, offers Master of Science degrees in Adult Education, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Counseling and Guidance, Educational Administration, Instructional Technology; a doctoral program in Educational Leadership; and transcripted certificates in Higher Educational Administration and Leadership and STEM Leadership.

The Counseling Program offers two programs 100% online: Counseling and Guidance (EDCG) and Clinical Mental Health Counseling (EDCM), which is accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). TAMUK is regionally accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The School Counseling and Guidance program is approved by the State Board for Educator Certification.
