Job Description

Under the direction of the Incident Response Logistics Coordinator and Lead Fleet Specialist, assist with monitoring, evaluation and management of Field Operations Department vehicles and equipment including performing field inspections, troubleshooting, facilitating equipment repair, ensuring maintenance of records and providing related training. Respond to a variety of wildfire and all-hazard incidents and provide logistical support as needed.

Responsibilities: -Assist Incident Response Logistics Coordinator and Lead Fleet Specialist with monitoring, evaluation and management of the Field Operations Department vehicles and equipment including:

1) performing field inspections on equipment, verification of required maintenance, vehicle records and inventory

2) assisting in the facilitation of equipment repair and conduct emergency repairs as needed

3) help ensure current and accurate maintenance records, including maintenance and repair documentation, are kept on all vehicles and equipment.-Support and participate in emergency response and wildfire operations as needed. Duties may include firefighting, safety or logistical support duties.-Manage and account for TFS credit cards in accordance with applicable laws, policies, rules, procedures and guidelines.

-Manage and account for assigned TFS property.

-Other duties as assigned.

*May require working long hours with minimal rest and in primitive conditions.

*May result in exposure to emotionally stressful situations for extended periods of time.

*May require exposure to equipment vibrations and noise.

*May require exposure to harsh environmental conditions such as wind, sunlight, rain and temperature extremes.

*May require extended walking, standing, twisting, bending, kneeling, reaching and lifting and carrying heavy objects.

*Must meet Work Capacity Test MODERATE fitness level requirements defined for the position.

*May become eligible for additional out-of-state duty in accordance with the Wildland Qualification System Guide (PMS 310-1) by meeting applicable fitness levels.

-Ability to travel frequently to TFS field locations to perform duties. Normal 40 hour work week, occasionally requiring some after-hours for regular duty. During emergency response activities will require staffing outside Monday-Friday 8-5. Includes early morning and/or late night, plus weekends.

Education and Experience: Required Education: High School DiplomaPreferred Education: Two year mechanic-related technical degree or graduation from an ASE certified program.

Required Experience: Two (2) or more years as a vehicle or heavy equipment mechanic - OR equivalent experience with the agency.

Preferred Experience: Four (4) years experience in a wildland fire agency with logistic and /or operation duties. Two (2) years experience working with transporting heavy equipment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Required Knowledge: Working knowledge of tools used in vehicle maintenance, repair and fabrication. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Preferred Knowledge: Basic knowledge of the Incident Command System (ICS), NWCG firefighter certification, working knowledge of water delivery systems.

Required Skills: Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.Required Ability: Ability to conduct training classes. Ability to travel frequently to agency offices to perform duties. Multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

Registrations, Certifications, and Licenses: Required: Valid Texas Driver’s License (Commercial Class A) or acquire one within 180 days of employment.
