Job Description

The First-Year Experience Intern, under general supervision of the Director of First-Year Experience, organizes and manages various programs and services within the Office of First-Year Experience, serving the students of Texas A&M University-San Antonio.

This is a grant-funded position. Grant-funded positions are contingent upon available grant funding.

Responsibilities:

  • Supports Peer Leaders during New Student Orientation (NSO), JagX, and Jaguar Jumpstart by developing and leading various sessions and workshops for incoming first-year students.

  • Assists in the development of the comprehensive Peer Leader program from the recruitment, selection, training, and on-going development of the Peer Leader team.

  • Coordinates events and programs for students and the campus community.

  • Collaborates with faculty/staff/departments in support of student programming efforts.

  • Assists with implementation of the Pursuing, Resources, Opportunities, Wellness, and Learning (PROWL) program. The PROWL program’s goal is to connect first-year students to various support across campus and to provide a sense of community for all who participate.

  • Supports the development and assessment of goals and student learning outcomes for the Office of First-Year Experience.

  • Works in-person with other FYE professional staff during normal operating hours: 8am-5pm, Mon-Fri.

  • This role supports the "US DOE Title V grant: Caminos Hacia el Exito - Pathways to Success.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree.

  • One (1) year of related experience.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience working with first-year college students in a mentoring or teaching capacity.

  • Experience developing and implementing peer mentorship programs.

  • Enrolled in a graduate program at Texas A&M University-San Antonio for the Fall 2024 semester.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge and experience utilizing Microsoft Suite and Canva

  • Ability to multitask, work cooperatively with others, and prioritize tasks

  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills

  • Planning and organization skills

Anticipated Start Date: June 3, 2024
