Job Description

Job Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with contractors, subcontractors and client during planning, design, and construction. Acts as the clients representative.

  • Provides assistance and direction to contractors to resolve complex construction challenges, compliance issues, and other problems related to maintenance and facilities.

  • Serves as the liaison between the design team/field operations and ensures timely and satisfactory completion of projects.

  • Coordinates construction schedules and monitors completion dates of deliverables.

  • Reviews drawings and specifications for conformity to TAMUS and TAMU construction standards, code requirements, and costs, and recommends alternative solutions where required.

  • Processes revisions, change orders and contingency expenditure authorizations.

  • Prepares field reports with details of condition observed, instructions given, and recommendations for corrective action required.

  • Coordinate and prepare required work orders as needed for electrical, plumbing, custodial, carpentry, key, and sign shops to perform work required to maintain facilities for instructional and research use.

  • Maintain office software, files, drawings and digital photos of projects.

  • Tracks work requests, monitors construction progress, obtains cost estimates and requisitions for purchase orders. Approves payments for ongoing projects.

  • Other duties as required.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in building construction, architecture, or engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Three years of related experience in construction work, facility design/planning, or field observation of construction projects.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications. Knowledge of building systems, fire and life safety codes, building codes, and accessibility standards.

  • Ability to read and understand floor plans.

  • Strong background knowledge in facilities coordination, knowledge of AutoCAD.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

  • Required to carry a cell phone during business hours and occasionally to serve as a point of contact for after-hours facility calls, which sometimes require returning to campus and calls pertaining to construction and renovation projects.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge and understanding of applicable building codes (NEC, Life Safety, International, ADA, ASHRAE, E-Builder).
