Job Summary

The Field Technician position will be responsible for monthly inspection and reporting of backup diesel generators at remote sites around the Greater Minneapolis area. The candidate will also be required to assist the Lead Generator Technician with maintenance, repairs, and other duties as needed.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Perform equipment, including but not limited to generator, switchgear, fuel tank, and enclosure inspections for all sites in Greater Minneapolis area at minimum monthly

  • Perform and prepare reports for SPCC sites monthly

  • Respond to equipment alarms, resets, issues, etc. as required

  • Provide regular updates to Service Manager on current or potential issues

  • Perform maintenance activities including but not limited to replacing filters, heaters, batteries, troubleshooting small issues

  • Assist with larger repairs in conjunction with Lead Generator Technician and/or 3rd party vendors

  • Complete paperwork in a neat, accurate, thorough, and timely manner

Minimum Requirements

  • Ability to work overtime with little notice; weekend hours may occasionally be required

  • Must have valid Driver’s License

  • Subject to physical, drug and alcohol testing, and background check requirements

  • Must value and practice safety, common sense, and good judgment

  • Comfort around mechanical equipment and willingness to learn power generation

Working Conditions

  • Majority of time spent in a field environment

  • Travel by company vehicle to and from generator sites up to five hours at a time

  • Regularly exposed to environments involving rotating and energized equipment, elevated work areas, confined spaces, noise, dust, hazardous materials, and odors

  • Comfortable working both indoors and outdoors, exposed to all weather conditions (including heat, rain, cold and wind) while wearing required PPE

  • Must be able to drive and operate a motorized passenger vehicle

  • Frequently performs tasks requiring climbing, bending at the waist, crawling, kneeling, crouching, lifting

  • Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to hard hat, safety glasses, ear plugs, masks/respirators, reflective safety vests, gloves, and safety toe work boots

Please Note: Salary offered will be commensurate with the successful candidate’s education and/or experience and consistent with the job location’s market pay rate.
