Trail Maintenance Crew Member

(Part-Time Seasonal)

 

GENERAL PURPOSE Trail crew member performs trail maintenance and trail-building tasks

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED Works under the general supervision of the Trails manager.

 

SUPERVISION EXERCISED None.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

Trail Building and Maintenance Perform trail maintenance on trails including brushing, lopping, and tread repair using loppers, chainsaws, pick mattocks, and shovels. Construct drainage features using dry stone masonry Construct new trails using sustainable trail techniques, Complete trial work in a timely and efficient manner, follow established protocol to ensure that project work quality remains consistent and meets Uintah County standards, maintain tools and equipment by established procedures, adhere to field safety protocols to ensure the safety of self and others.

 

Volunteer and Event Support Actively engages with volunteers during events to create a memorable experience, participate in set-up and clean-up for assigned events and trail days, provide event support for assigned Uintah County events.

  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects
  • Reach with hands and arms
  • Walk, climb, or balance and stoop
  • Ability to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to converse and exchange accurate information while working in the field
  • Vision ability requirements include the ability to inspect, identify, observe, and assess situational work environments both close up and at a distance.
  • Endurance to conduct fieldwork in remote settings under strenuous condition.
  • Ability to carry up to 50 lbs. over rough terrain and hike for an extended length of time in extreme heat.

Performs related duties as required.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 1. Valid Driver's License

 

  1. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Trail maintenance, and trail building experience. Basic knowledge of operating equipment (chain saws, Heavey Equipment (Skeedster, Mini -X) Pulaski, McLeod, etc. Experience working with

volunteer groups. Strong organizational and leadership skills. Able to work independently (self- motivated), as well as in a team setting. Understanding of local land use laws. Some weekend

hours will be required on occasion. Ability to develop effective working relationships with supervisors, fellow employees, and the public.

 

  1. Special Qualifications: Must possess a valid Utah driver's license, First Aid/CPR certification Saw Certificate -- A (or equivalent)

     

  2. Work Environment

  • Fast-paced, physically demanding work environment
  • Work with moving mechanical equipment (i.e. tools, chainsaws,)
  •  Ability to work in an environment with unpredictable weather
  • Ability to work in remote locations for extended periods
