Clark College Program Specialist 2 - Nursing Admissions in Vancouver, Washington

The Clark College Nursing Department aims to create and sustain an environment where students feel welcomed, and supported, and experience a sense of belonging and inclusion. We also aim to provide holistic and flexible resources that assist students in identifying and staying on their educational path through completion.   In order to support these aims, we are currently accepting applications for a full-time, 12-month Program Specialist 2 position. This is a dynamic position with two distinct yet related roles supporting effective holistic admissions operations and student success. The position provides essential administrative support and communication for several department processes related to holistic admissions. This position also provides an opportunity to work both one-on-one with students and in groups to support and elevate students in achieving their academic and career goals.  At Clark, we value equity, diversity, and inclusion. Position Responsibilities

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:   Holistic Admissions Coordination Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively with nursing department leadership, the college advising office, and credentials personnel in the program entry process, maintain applicant status updates and compose appropriate status notification letters to advise students of selection status.
  • Create and maintain accurate records related to holistic admissions within the nursing department.
  • Support new student academic orientation by leading administrative organization and facilitating student support content.
  • Maintain records and data with statistics required by nursing program accreditation and regulation.
  • Coordinate and implement processes related to nursing holistic admissions, including review of applicants, tracking and minimizing bias, and student notification of selection decisions.
  • Collaborate with nursing department faculty and staff in coordination, logistics, and preparation for on-campus new student orientation and retention support events.
  • Maintain clear and collaborative communication between the nursing department, credentials, advising, and office of diversity, equity, and inclusion related to holistic admission.
  • Participate in the development of operating goals and recommend, implement, and administer methods and procedures to enhance operations related to holistic admissions.
  • Problem-solve and resolve questions and challenges from students related to holistic admissions processes.
  • Monitor, respond, and triage student emails.
  • Update holistic admissions materials and resources as needed in collaboration with nursing department leadership and departments connected with selective admissions processes.

Retention Specialist Responsibilities: 

  • Coordinate and collaborate with the Associate Director of Outcomes, Inclusion & Supportto coordinate *wrap-around support for student retention and success. Design, implement, and evaluate outreach efforts, presentations, workshops, and other activities to facilitate equitable retention of nursing students. 
  • Assist nursing students in the identification and development of effective problem-solving skills, self-advocacy, decision-making, time management, self-care strategies and personal responsibility to support students' ability to persist in goal attainment.  
  • Supervise student employees that provide tutoring support, including required tutoring trainings and certification through Tutoring Services. 
  • Create affinity groups/spaces with a focus on inclusion, study support and a sense of belonging across the program.
