Microsoft Corporation Senior Hard Surface Artist – Gears of War – The Coalition in Vancouver, British Columbia

We are seeking a creative and motivated Senior Hard Surface Artist. At The Coalition you will work on AAA console titles with a team of highly experienced artists who are passionate about playing games, making games, and creating their best work.

Responsibilities

  • The creation of game ready AAA vehicles, weapons, and robots.

  • Work with the Art Directors, Artists, Riggers and Technical Artists to the create high quality art content which is efficient and aligns with the art direction of the game.

  • Sets a quality bar for external outsourcing partners, with the ability to continuously reiterate based on feedback and design criteria set out by the studio’s Art Leadership team.

  • Working with the broader Art team to achieve key milestones and deliverables.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or Certificate in Design, Fine Arts, Human Computer Interaction, Visual Communications or related art field AND 4+ years experience in art design or a related art field working on computer games or entertainment.

  • OR equivalent experience

  • 4+ years’ of experience in AAA games

  • OR has shipped a AAA title

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years’ of experience in AAA games on a shipped title

  • Demonstrated aptitude in hard surface modeling.

  • Sound awareness of real time graphics issues

  • Thorough understanding of optimized meshes to maximize the high to low poly workflow.

  • Proficiency in 3D applications like Maya, 3D Max or Blender.

  • Proficiency in Substance Painter and Photoshop.

  • High level of attention to detail and professional pride in doing your best work.

  • Ability to work well under deadlines; self-motivated and work well in a collaborative environment.

  • Experience mentoring early in career artists

  • Z brush or other 3D painting software experience.

  • Fusion 360 experience

  • Substance Designer experience

  • Unreal Engine and/or other game engine experience

Art IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across Canada is CAD $104,000 - CAD $193,200 per year.
