Microsoft Corporation Principal Tools Engineering Lead– Gears of War – The Coalition in Vancouver, British Columbia

The Coalition is looking for a Principal Tools Engineering Lead to come and help lead and manage our Tools team. Our experienced team, which contains mostly senior engineers, provides many tools, workflows and infrastructure that our studio and partners rely on to make our game as efficient as possible. As the Tools team continues to expand we are looking for a dedicated people manager who can coach and manage the team, partner with production and our stakeholders to ensure we meet our deliverables and support the studio with the technology we provide.

Responsibilities

  • People-manage 6+ tools engineers through 1:1s, connects and career conversations.

  • Ability to find, interview, hire and retain talent within the tools team.

  • Own the tools roadmap with the help of the tools team, production and our stakeholders while managing priorities across all groups.

  • Ability to work with stakeholders both inside and outside of the studio when it comes to building and adopting new technologies.

  • Help identify dependencies between technical requirements across multiple systems

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 5+ years people management experience.

  • 5+ years experience building tools and pipelines for video games.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • A growth mindset and excellent problem solving abilities.

  • Excellent communication skills; ability to work closely with all disciplines found within a game studio.

  • Experience with Unreal Engine.

  • Proficient C++/C# and object oriented design programming.

  • Experience working with cloud platforms such as Azure and AWS.

Software Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across Canada is CAD $132,800 - CAD $247,200 per year.
