PeaceHealth Hospital Engineer - Facilities (Per-Diem/Relief) in Vancouver, British Columbia

PeaceHealth is seeking a Hospital Engineer - Facilities for a Per Diem/Relief, 0.0001 FTE, Variable position. The general salary range for this job opening at PeaceHealth is $30.22 – $45.32. The actual hiring rate is dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to, the job/position responsibilities, location, terms of the applicable collective bargaining agreement, education, training, work experience, seniority, work performance, etc.

Provides in-house ability to maintain a large variety of plant equipment and health care systems

Position Details:

  • Repairs and maintains facilities, equipment, and utility systems in a manner that will optimize the provision of a code-compliant, safe, comfortable and healing environment for patients, visitors and staff.

  • Responds to and resolves alarm or emergency situations involving utility systems, life safety systems, and general facility equipment, including all non-medical fixtures and appliances.

  • Makes daily rounds in areas of responsibility for maintenance work and performs repairs according to department procedures.

  • Coordinates and oversees outside vendor service to ensure all work is properly completed and meets hospital standards for repair and maintenance.

  • Coordinates activities and documentation to accomplish goals of the department ensuring an efficient operating department.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What you bring:

  • One year of building/plant maintenance training by one or more of the following approaches: trade school, apprenticeship, or military school or training required.

  • Associate Degree Preferred

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in hospital maintenance or industrial/commercial building/plant maintenance experience, or a combination of both required.

  • Drivers License required.

  • Building Operator Certification preferred.

Skills

  • Proficient in at least two of the following trades: plumbing, steam generation/maintenance, control/alarm systems, HVAC systems, or refrigeration. (Required)

  • Knowledge of national and state codes, rules, regulations, laws and procedures applicable to the trade. (Required)

  • Must be able to cope with repeated bending, squatting, stooping, prolonged standing, walking, and climbing stairs. (Required)

  • Must be able to lift up to 50pounds and safely operate hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic test equipment. (Required)

  • Have a general understanding of basic building structure and repair. (Required)

  • Must be able to communicate well both verbally and in writing with staff and contract services. (Required)

  • Intermediate computer, keyboarding, and data entry skills. (Required)

Working Conditions

Lifting

  • Fine motor skills to be able to grasp and control medical equipment and perform precise procedures.

  • Facilities/Maintenance/ Engineer: Continuous moving around area. Lifting/carrying: Frequent up to 30 lbs. Occasional up to 50 lbs. Frequent reaching/ bending/ stooping, grasping. Occasional pushing/pulling 15 lbs. sustained force with frequent stop/start. Occasional climbing ladders/stairs. Occasional squatting/kneeling/ crawling.

  • Occasional push/pull up to 50 lbs. force.

  • Occasional reaching/ bending/ stooping/ squatting/ crouching/ kneeling/ grasping.

  • Security: Ability to move around area with occasional sitting. Continuous moving around area. Lifting/carrying: Frequent up to 10 lbs. Occasional up to 50 lbs.

Environmental Conditions

  • Exposure to biohazard, body fluids and airborne particles.

  • Must be able to complete tasks in a noisy environment.

  • Exposure to outside temperatures (seasonal).

  • Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals.

  • Facilities/Maintenance/Engineer: Time spent on site in medical/hospital setting.

  • Security: Time spent on site in medical/hospital setting.

Mental/Visual

  • Vision and hearing required within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).

  • Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
