THE BENTON COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT IS SEEKING AN ASSOCIATE / PARA - FOR OUR MIDDLE SCHOOL/HIGH SCHOOL. THIS POSITION WILL ASSIST STUDENTS (AND TEACHERS) IN OUR SPECIAL EDUCATION PROGRAM. ASSISTANCE IS NEEDED FOR STUDENTS WHO HAVE SPECIAL NEEDS. All interested candidates must apply using our Frontline application system. Contact Melody Spence - 319-228-8701, Ext. 1505mspence@benton.k12.ia.usJOB DESCRIPTIONTITLE: ASSOCIATE /Paraprofessional REPORTS TO: SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHING STAFF, BUILDING PRINCIPAL, SUPERINTENDENT JOB GOAL: Assist students who have special needs, assist with implementing the IEP strategies, implementing behavior programs, collecting data, consulting with special education teacher, following directions from special needs teacher and building principal. Position many involve assisting student with hygiene, toileting, mobility, safety, behavior, supporting classroom learning. FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt Part Time Hourly QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Each substitute Associate must have on file in the Central Administration Office:

  • Trainings - please work with Melody Spence in Central Office for all required training, physical examination requirements, signature on specific board poliicies, etc..

  • Completed application through Iowa Works (using our Frontline/Applitrack) system

  • Physical examination form. Required for all employees for placement on active substitute list; to be updated everythree years at a Cost to be borne by the employee.

  • Clean returned background check and fingerprinting.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Interest in working with students. Interested in library/media and supporting students and staff.

  • Ability to take specific directions from staff.

  • Willingness to learn new techniques working with students and be open minded.

  • Caring and patient disposition.

  • Needs to have a sense of humor and not be judgmental.

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS1. Administer, score, and record achievement and diagnostic tests as the teacher recommends for individual students.2. Supervise students on the playground, in the lunchroom, and at the bus line.3. Perform clerical duties including typing and filing.4. Supervise before and after school programs.5. Participate in in-service training, as assigned.6. Help students master equipment or instructional materials assigned by the teacher.7. Alert the teacher to any problem or special information about an individual student.8. Maintain the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of fully licensed teachers.9. Operate and care for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes.10. Know emergency procedures for the building and classrooms in the assigned building.11. Perform other job related duties as assigned.
