JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State's Applied Research Laboratory is searching for a Truck Driver (Light, Medium, and Heavy) to join their team. Duties include:

  • Drive University and U.S. Navy vehicles to include automobiles, ¼ ton through 5-ton trucks with or without tractor-trailers

  • Operate other equipment such as forklifts, etc.

  • Follow established University and Navy security practices in the control of items in the warehouse; assist in the development of and maintain inventory records; catalog new items

  • Responsible for insuring trucks are loaded for proper weight, distribution of load, blocking and packing, to include hazardous material

  • Assume responsibility for load while in transit

  • Follow Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations while on the road

  • Maintain vehicles while on the road by performing operator’s preventive maintenance; report need for repairs to supervisor; arrange for repairs while on the road

  • Clean, load, and unload trucks

  • Move furniture, fixtures, equipment and machinery as required

  • Assist ARL field crew in loading equipment on ships, submarines, etc.

  • Remove accumulated waste and debris from building, as required

  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work area in a clean and orderly condition; report unusual conditions to supervisor

  • Plow snow and chop ice

  • Spread anti-skid materials on walks and driveways

Job Requirements: Requires the use of commercial English, grammar and arithmetic such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, including decimals and fractions; simple use of formulas, charts, tables, drawings, specifications, schedules, wiring diagrams, together with the use of adjustable measuring instruments, graduates and the like requiring interpretation in their various applications; or the posting, preparation, interpretation, use and checking of reports, forms, records and comparable data. U.S. Citizenship and Class A Pennsylvania Commercial Driver`s License (CDL) with HAZMAT Endorsement required. 1 to 2 years of effective experience driving tractor trailer trucks; must pass the practical test for the operation of tractor trailer trucks. This position requires cross country driving.

Work Schedule: 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Days Off: Saturday, Sunday

Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation. Employment with the Applied Research Laboratory will require successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen.

NOTE: THIS POSITION REQUIRES THAT YOU OPERATE A MOTOR VEHICLE AS A PART OF YOUR JOB DUTIES. A VALID DRIVER`S LICENSE AND SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF A MOTOR VEHICLE RECORDS CHECK WILL BE REQUIRED IN ADDITION TO STANDARD BACKGROUND CHECKS.

NOTE: THIS POSITION IS SUBJECT TO FEDERAL DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TESTING FOR ALCOHOL AND CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES (49 CFR PART 40), AND PHYSICAL EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS AS PER PA CODE 231.85.
