JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Science IT Department in Eberly College of Science (https://https//science.psu.edu/) is looking for a motivated and self-driven IT Support Specialist-Senior Support to join their Service Desk team. This team is responsible for the IT needs of roughly 850 faculty and staff, plus graduate students, in a diverse research and teaching environment. Supported devices include computers with Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems (various versions and distributions), Android and iOS mobile devices, miscellaneous printers, standard and research-attached peripherals, and web conference technologies.

We're looking for a candidate who can effectively troubleshoot system issues, assist with short-term projects, and help our customers with policy compliance. A background working with Windows and Mac operating systems is essential - knowledge of Linux is a plus. Our vastly diverse IT landscape creates an excellent opportunity for candidates to develop and hone specialized skills, from Linux distribution support to IP address and DNS management. On-the-job training is available, but familiarity with endpoint management tools like BigFix, JAMF, Lansweeper, IPAM, TeamViewer, ServiceNow, and general service desk operations will give you an edge, but so will a proven ability to learn the mechanics of an IT system and apply that knowledge to a thorough resolution.

Our team is focused on customer service, and that drives everything we do. Eberly College of Science is a high-level teaching and research college, and for it to succeed in its mission, we must be adaptable, empathetic, personable, and knowledgeable. We're looking for a candidate who embodies those characteristics – someone who will take ownership of a customer's IT problem, understand it on a technical level, and provide them with a solution that brings them satisfaction and happiness. While technical aptitude is required, a genuine interest in helping people is just as important. It's vital that you're able to balance working autonomously while also collaborating with a close-knit team. The daily duties will consistently require working with and assisting other members of our department, as well as within our Science IT team.

We are proud to present the candidates with stretch opportunities that suit their interests and encourage growth throughout our unit as those skills are developed. Also, as part of the technical development in this role, the candidate will have the opportunity to earn certifications and participate in college-wide transformational efforts and university-wide IT events to network with the university's IT community.

Education and Experience:

Typically requires an Associate Degree or higher and 2+ years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional information:

Both a cover letter and resume must be submitted to be considered for the position. In the cover letter, applicants should explain their interest in the position, how their background and experience are relevant to it, and highlight their customer service skills.

To maximize work-life balance, this position will operate under a hybrid schedule. This position offers a flexible work arrangement that combines remote and on-campus work. Questions related to flexible work should be directed to the hiring manager during the interview process.

The candidate must pass background checks prior to the start date.
