JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Perform assigned piping and plumbing installations on a wide variety of systems and equipment including, but not limited to, laboratory equipment, dining hall and kitchen equipment, heating, ventilating, and air conditioning units, refrigeration units, fire extinguishing systems, water softeners and filters, heat exchangers, all aspects of building plumbing systems, all segments of sewer line systems, both exterior and interior, all aspects of distribution lines, both exterior and interior, etc.

  • Install, repair and maintain a wide variety of plumbing and piping components including, but not limited to, steam distribution and return lines, water lines, deep well pumps, hot water lines, air and pneumatic lines, effluents lines, sewer lines, etc.

  • Perform complete plumbing and piping installations, repair and alterations; test and inspect completed work to detect faulty installations and correct as necessary

  • Perform inspections, maintenance, and housekeeping programs on tunnels, manholes, valve and meter boxes, septic tanks, cesspools, grease traps, certain utility storage areas including mechanical rooms and equipment therein such as pumps and meters, and other areas to include all plumbing and piping installations and equipment. Install, repair and maintain all types of plumbing and piping materials and components used on campus including, but not limited to, glass, dura-iron, PVC, copper, steel, cast iron, terracotta, transite piping, etc.

  • Operate various types of hand and power tools to cut, thread, bend and join pipe; operate and maintain portable sewage and water pumps, sewage cleaning machines and rods, etc.

  • Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, sketches, and work orders; plan and layout work in proper sequence, assuring top-quality work in all aspects

  • Detect unusual conditions and defective materials and report to supervisor

  • Maintain workshop and job area in clean, neat, and orderly condition

  • Protect surrounding property and furniture from damage during process of work

  • Answer questions for and/or direct the work of apprentices and/or lower grade employees as required

  • Operate motor vehicle as required

  • Perform other duties related or similar to the type described above

Job Requirements: Requires the use of advanced shop mathematics together with the use of complicated drawings, specifications, charts, tables, handbook formulas, all varieties of precision measuring instruments and/or the use of broad training in a recognized trade. Equivalent to a complete accredited, indentured apprenticeship or equivalent to high school plus a 2-year technical college education. Over 1 year up to and including 3 years.

Work Schedule: 3:30 p.m. - 12:00 a.m.

Days Off: Saturday, Sunday

NOTE: THIS POSITION REQUIRES THAT YOU OPERATE A MOTOR VEHICLE AS A PART OF YOUR JOB DUTIES. A VALID DRIVER`S LICENSE AND SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF A MOTOR VEHICLE RECORDS CHECK WILL BE REQUIRED IN ADDITION TO STANDARD BACKGROUND CHECKS.
