JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Peters Research Group at Penn State College of Agricultural Sciences, Department of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences is seeking a part-time research assistant to support laboratory operations and organization.

The position will include responsibility for ordering and reconciling orders of standard laboratory supplies and equipment, and standard laboratory organization of laboratory supplies and equipment. The position requires experience in: 1) general laboratory skills; 2) the genotyping of transgenic mice and understanding the principle underlying the generation of transgenic mice for research; 3) polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and gel electrophoresis of PCR products; 4) standard biochemical analyses including western blot analysis, isolation of RNA, DNA, quantitative real-time PCR and general laboratory skills; 5) training new students who join the lab with safety and laboratory procedures; 6) overseeing undergraduate student research; 7) overseeing and completing research studies; 8) manipulating raw data, perform statistical analyses on the data, and make figure quality images for manuscripts for research undertaken by our laboratory; and 9) embedding fixed tissues in paraffin, sectioning with a microtome, and staining the sections with various reagents.
