JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

A research group within the Marketing Department, Smeal College of Business is in need of a motivated RA with experience in data engineering. This would be a paid position, a resume builder, and an opportunity to network.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Scraping data from social media platforms, such as Twitter.

  • Setting up and managing databases, such as SQL.

  • Cleaning data (e.g., converting files from .pkl files to csv files, and addressing encoding and decoding issues).

  • Troubleshooting coding issues that arise during data collection and analysis.

  • Understanding basic statistical knowledge and formatting data for further analysis accordingly.

Requirements:

  • Preferably, the candidate should have experience in acquiring data from publicly available sources online (e.g., html, API) and managing large amounts of unstructured data. The ideal candidate will have a degree in CSE, IST, or relevant experience such as a software developer.

  • Possess excellent time management skills and a strong sense of accountability towards meeting deadlines. The workload may vary from week to week, ranging from 10-20 hours of work to zero hours, and the working hours can be adjusted according to the project requirements.

  • Have a good understanding of, or be driven to acquire knowledge about, different coding languages, tools, packages, such as Python, R, JavaScript, Postman etc.
