Summary of Duties:

 

This position provides oversight and shared leadership for the 4-H Youth Development Program of Yakima County. Yakima County 4-H currently serves 300 youth members enrolled in 4-H community clubs, supports 70 certified volunteers, and facilitates youth outreach programming reaching 5,000+ annually. Major duties include volunteer coordination and management, and youth programming development and facilitation under the direction of the 4-H Regional Specialist. Responsibilities include community outreach, particularly to underserved audiences, reaching youth outside of the 4-H club model, and increasing equity, inclusion, and access to local 4-H programs. This position requires a commitment to positive youth development, youth empowerment, and collaborative work, along with creativity, compassion, and strong communication skills.

 

Required Qualifications:

 

• A Bachelor's degree in a relevant extension program discipline and two (2) years of related program experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

 

• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook; demonstrated work experience using these programs.

 

• Competency in using electronic communication methods and equipment for Extension education and daily work activities.

 

• While using a private vehicle for official business, the successful candidate must have current automobile liability insurance (meeting the requirements described in https://app.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=46.30.020 and https://app.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=46.29.090) and possess a valid driver's license.

 

• Must successfully pass the WSU 4-H Youth Development/Child Protection screening process.

 

• Ability to work year round in a variety of outdoor weather conditions.

 

• Ability to work flexible work hours that include frequent evenings and weekends.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

• Experience in volunteer management (i.e. recruitment, placement, education and recognition) and volunteerism.

 

• Knowledge of, and/or experience with, 4-H youth development programs.

 

• Experience and ability to work as a team member with staff and volunteers.

 

• Language and cultural competency in Spanish.

 

• Strong demonstrated written skills requiring limited editing and supervision in preparing reports, evaluations, press releases, synthesis of a broad range of materials, and effective written conveyance of program information to the public and program participants.

 

• Experience developing curriculum.

 

• Strong demonstrated verbal communication and listening skills: public speaking, effective conveyance of program information to the public, program participants, and decision-makers.

 

• Experience in mediation services.

 

• Experience working/collaborating with multiple public agencies, NGOs, and individuals in partnerships.

 

• Experience in leadership, and the ability to work and think independently.
