Job Summary:

Manages the direction and daily activities of the location's materials, including markets, shipping, and receiving and raw stock to support sales forecast, target inventories and plant production activities.

Role has direct reports of shipping, receiving, and material handling departments.

Job Duties:

  • Supervisory responsibilities include but are not limited to managing personnel in material handling areas. Coordinates with the Plant Manager, Plant Supervisors, Quality Department, Production Scheduler, and other plant personnel to attain delivery, cost, and quality of service objectives.

  • Responsible for 5S and provides oversight of the shipping/receiving/material handling departments quality and coordinates and collaborates with all stakeholder’s corrective actions.

  • Provides hands-on supervision, technical support, training, performance feedback, and work direction for Team Members within the assigned areas.

  • Develops and maintains a procedure manual for the shipping and receiving department.

  • Responsible for maintaining all department specific ISO documentation.

  • Maintains a safe working environment (e.g., works with Safety Department to ensures that staff has the proper licenses and certifications to operate vehicles and equipment.)

  • Manages waste removal (e.g., garbage, cardboard, scrap, etc.) for shipping/receiving/material handling departments.

  • Supervise employees engaged in verifying and keeping records on incoming and outgoing shipments and in preparing items for shipment. Oversees incoming and outgoing shipping activities to ensure accuracy, completeness, and condition of shipments.

  • Contributes as a working team member toward the overall production output of the assigned cell and leads by example.

  • Ensures that the Layered Audits are completed daily and ensures the appropriate stakeholder(s) are engaged in the process.

  • Assists with annual physical inventory pre-work and actual physical inventory count.

  • Ensures all data collection and reporting activities are accomplished as required.

  • Manage inventory relating to records, tracking of materials, changing business activity, quality of materials and stocking levels.

  • Accountable for location materials metrics and Standards of Performance.

  • Ensure the location's material management policies are consistent with the inventory control objectives of the corporation.

  • Actively support and implement lean principles as well as leader for HPT team.

  • Inspects material handling equipment for defects and notifies maintenance personnel or contacts outside service facility for repair.

  • Studies shipping notices, bill of lading, invoices, orders, and other records to determine shipping priorities, work assignments, and shipping methods required to meet shipping and receiving schedules, utilizing knowledge of shipping procedures, routes, and rates.

  • Fosters positive working relationships and responds proactively to performance concerns, discipline, employee complaints, and other employee relations matters.

  • Manage the consignment area for vendor managed inventory.

  • Manages the storage of purchased or make raw material, components, and finished goods.

  • Cycle count inventory and properly code and dispose on the mainframe and with key stakeholders.

  • Helps to ensure First In, First Out (FIFO) inventory management of purchased, and make inventory.

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds; extensive bending, lifting, and stooping and long periods of standing.

    Qualifications:

    Education and/or Experience:

  • 3-5 years of experience in inventory management or production control.

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Solid knowledge of the equipment, tools, processes, and operations of the assigned department.

  • Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing concepts & processes.

  • Working knowledge of the Parker quality system and tools.

    Skills and Knowledge:

  • Aptitude to manage by influence not only by hierarchy.

  • Ability to provide technical supervision within a high-performance team culture.

  • Ability to conduct On-Job-Training.

  • Ability to practice active listening and effective conflict resolution skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to function in a fast-paced and changing environment.

  • Must demonstrate a history of team building and change management leadership in a lean environment.

  • Basic organizational skills.

  • Possess analytical and technical skills required to understand business practices and recommend proper automation opportunities.

  • Must have advanced computer skills and the ability to manipulate, analyze, and present data in multiple electronic formats.

  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills for effective interface with all internal and external contacts.
