Role Summary
About the Role: The Senior Manager, Regulatory Affairs assists with the development, evaluation, and execution of Magna’s policy priorities by working closely with internal and external Subject Matter Experts to influence regulatory outcomes and positively impact Magna’s interests. As a member of the Government Affairs Department, the Senior Manager, Regulatory Affairs collaborates and coordinates across all Magna functions, groups, and divisions to ensure policy and advocacy priorities align with Magna’s strategic priorities.
Key Responsibilities
Your Responsibilities:
Work with the Public Policy Team to assess regulatory and policy trends and develop strategies and tactics to influence these trends
Collaborate with the Director of Government Affairs, Public Policy Team, and Magna Subject Matter Experts to monitor internal and external business developments, as well as identify connections between government policy, business activities, and industry trends
Assist in the development and drafting of testimony, comments, regulatory proposals, presentations, and other communications
Influence the policy positions and comments of trade associations affiliated with Magna
Maintain project files related to relevant regulations and policy trends
Prepare strategic analyses and policy position papers regarding issues that affect Magna, particularly with respect to current and emerging technologies
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with Magna Subject Matter Experts and consult with Magna Subject Matter Experts in the development of policy positions in several areas, including but not limited to:
ADAS, AV, and Connected Vehicle Policy
Automotive Safety Issues
Cybersecurity
Electrification and ZEV Issues
Emissions and Fuel Economy Standards
Data Privacy
Right to Repair and Data Access
Safety Labeling (e.g., New Car Assessment Program)
Measure and report on the effectiveness of Magna regulatory and policy initiatives
Establish and maintain relationships with key industry thought leaders, policymakers, regulatory agency staff, and other external stakeholders as necessary to promote the interests of Magna
Represent Magna in technical trade associations and participate on relevant committees or working groups
Perform other duties as required
Key Qualifications/Requirements
Who we are looking for:
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Political Science, Public Policy, or related field
8+ years' experience working in public policy, government, public affairs, and/or transportation
Experience working with or within government and facilitating complex conversations about legislation and regulation
Experience collaborating with organizations that deal with public policy issues
History of managing successful regulatory efforts
Passionate about advancing accessible, sustainable modes of mobility
Advanced computer knowledge and skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and virtual communication platforms (Microsoft Teams, WebEx, Zoom)
Advanced proficiency in database queries and data analysis is required
To be successful in this role, exceptional organizational and prioritization abilities are necessary
Ability to handle multiple assignments simultaneously and be comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
Ability to travel 20% - 30%
Your preferred qualifications:
Post graduate degree (J.D., MBA, or related)
Working knowledge of transportation policy, especially new mobility policy
Combination of policy, political, and private-sector experience
Highly motivated and “whatever it takes” mindset
Experience working across multiple countries and states/provinces
Multilingual
Good judgment and strong communication skills are critical
Proactive individual interested in research and the automotive market
