Woodbridge Sales and Engineering Product Engineer in Troy, Michigan

Woodbridge Holdings has an opening for a Product Engineer position at its facility in Troy, Michigan. This position is responsible for executing new product development projects, including polyurethane foam products used in the automotive manufacturing industry, from conceptualization to full market launch for Woodbridge's automotive customers, including GM, Chrysler, and Faurecia. Lead all design review activities by coordinating, reviewing, and summarizing design for additive manufacturing (DFAM) reports with advanced product quality planning (APQP) team and document feasibility judgments in team feasibility commitment form for each development gate. Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, or computer-generated reports. Research, design, evaluate, install, operate, or maintain mechanical products, equipment, systems, or processes to meet requirement. Develop, coordinate, and monitor all aspects of production of polyurethane foam and related products to be used in the automotive industry, including selection of manufacturing methods, fabrication, or operation of product designs, and molded foam pads for automotive seating. Develop expanded polypropylene (EPP) components for energy absorption and support. Create, review, and update design failure mode and effects analyses (DFMEAs), as required, to document failure modes. Document engineering change management of assigned programs by creating, maintaining, and freezing accurate engineering bill of materials from engineering drawing, 3D computer-aided design (CAD), and/or statement of work (SOW) to track changes for the life of the program. View and perform simple manipulation of 3D data to capture dimensions/measurements to review and verify designs. Coordinate and direct the creation and release of component and assembly drawings, ensuring proper dimensioning and tolerancing to meet manufacturing capabilities and customer integration requirements. Support trim engineering team to develop, troubleshoot, release soft trim components for customer build events throughout the design and launch phases of assigned programs. Support the Assembly and Diversified Business Unit team to develop and release non-automotive components and assemblies. Perform tolerance stack analysis of assemblies and systems to confirm assembly feasibility and repeatability. Review designs for value analysis and value engineering (VA/VE) opportunities. Document engineering costs and report, as required, engineering spending for assigned programs to support financial review. Review internal and external eSOWs to identify and understand the program scope, performance requirements/specifications, DV/PV testing requirements, and support the development of ED&D quotes. Requires Bachelor's degree or an equivalent foreign degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, plus at least three (3) years of experience coordinating with CAD designers & CAD environment and product development. At least 2 years of this experience must include (1) experience in the automotive industry; (2) 5S and Kaizen; (3) polyurethane design parameters, tool design and manufacturing.
