Dean Transportation Diesel Service Technician - Mechanic in Trenton, MI in Trenton, Michigan
Immediate positions available, $21-$34 per hour based on certifications and experience, full benefits package provided.
Summary of Position
Perform as a fleet technician which involves all areas of vehicle maintenance that may include any of the following based on the specific job and Dean operation site assigned: diagnosis and repair on school buses, motor coaches, pickup trucks, passenger vans, cars, tractors, and/or forklifts owned by the company.
Specific Responsibilities
- Performs repairs as needed in accordance with OEM manufacturers recommendations and State and Federal regulations. Inspects equipment for defects, determines root causes and completes repairs for appropriate correction to defects found. Useful understanding of preventative maintenance inspection and repair processes to include but not limited to, diesel and gas engines, air and hydraulic braking systems, suspension systems, drivetrain assemblies, automatic transmissions, differentials, hydraulic lift systems, electrical systems and body assemblies.
- Answers service calls and responds to breakdowns; conducts on-site repairs when possible.
- May install accessories such as two-way radios, cameras and GPS systems.
- Reviews technical service bulletins, vehicle maintenance diagnostic links, online electrical diagrams, has adequate understating /operational use of diagnostic software for diesel and gas engines, braking systems, etc.
- Parts procurement and inventory control.
- Communicates with bus drivers, operations staff and other Fleet technicians regarding maintenance difficulties and/or advises or assists as necessary.
- Performs safety inspections; assists with annual Michigan State Police inspections.
- Appropriate housekeeping of maintenance facility to include but not limited to: emptying trash, sweeping and mopping floors in work areas including restroom/locker room areas.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Prepares vehicle maintenance reports and submits to Regional Fleet Manager. Reviews technical reports, vehicle maintenance manuals, electrical diagrams, and meter readings to evaluate, diagnose, and repair.
- Consults with vendors concerning ordering or use of parts.
- Consults with bus drivers and other mechanics regarding maintenance problems and/or needs and advises or assists as necessary.
- Performs safety inspections; assists with Michigan State Police inspections.
- Cleans shop floor, drain pan, buckets, etc. Properly disposes of unusable replacement parts such as batteries, brake drums, as well as used motor oil, transmission fluid, and antifreeze.
- May change oil and repair or replace tires.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
