Examples of Duties
The City of Tigard’s Police Department is currently recruiting for a Community Service Officer to join their team. This position performs a variety of complex activities in administering non-sworn police support to the patrol division. This position is an unarmed uniformed position which includes a ballistic vest and duty belt.
The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who has the ability to prioritize daily tasks with limited direction. The candidate will able to effectively communicate with the public in person and via the phone.
The focus of the position will be helping address the City’s houselessness concerns by working with other officers, City staff, and community based service providers to work towards longer-term solutions.
Assist sworn police officers with responding to crashes, assisting those involved, and providing traffic control.
CSO’s work with other Department and City staff at community events like Drug Take-Back, Shred-It, Tigard Festival of Balloons, Main St Halloween, and others throughout the year.
Use unconventional tools and equipment such as ATV’s, e-bikes, and side-by-side UTVs to reach areas not easily accessible by larger vehicles or on-foot.

Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade AND
One (1) year of experience in basic law enforcement environment or code enforcement.
Supplemental Information
Union Representation: TPOA
Important: This is a two-year limited duration, grant-funded Community Service Officer position. At the City’s discretion, additional funding for the position may continue beyond the two years based upon available resources and departmental need.
Schedule: The initial assignment would be either Monday through Friday 9am to 5pm or Tuesday through Friday 8am to 6pm. There are other options but working on Fridays is a priority consideration. However, this can change based on the needs of the department within the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Compensation: The hourly range for this position is $28.78-$36.74 per hour.
