Purpose: Responsible to determine most economical carrier alternatives, both domestic and international based on knowledge and analysis of alternative modes of goods transportation. Provides coordinating, tracking and reporting on freight movement in various carrier modes. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Determines the most economically appropriate domestic or international transportation mode for incoming and outgoing materials and products based on analysis of tariff rates, contract rates, freight classifications, delivery schedules and deadlines. Works closely with salespeople and vendors to calculate load factors to determine the most efficient size and type of equipment and mode of movement. Analyzes truck traffic carriers and suitable traffic lanes for locations in the lower 48 states with primary concentration for PNW states. Coordinates, tracks and reports on freight movement in various carrier modes including ocean carriers, trains and trucks; maintains computer database identifying mode, dates of traffic, and contents; tracks costs and efficiency and recommends alternative modes when appropriate. Handles all shipments into Canada. Sets up precise protocol and required coordination, analysis and documentation for inter-company tracking and federal tax purposes, as well as compliance with both Canadian and US labor and business requirements. Books cargo to all ocean vessels and acts as a final arbiter to ensure that no cargo moves on or in an inappropriate mode Contacts freight carriers to obtain Proof-of Insurance ensuring appropriate liability and cargo levels. Performs ongoing analysis on ways to save the company on freight costs. Other duties may be assigned. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This job has no supervisory responsibilities. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
