SUNY Upstate Medical University Medical Office Assistant in Syracuse, New York

Job Summary:

Is perceived by patients and other contacts (physicians, insurance companies, office staff) as dependable and responsive to patient needs. Ability to listen effectively and maintain patient confidence and trust. Assists doctors with procedures. Prep patients or injections. Capable of anticipating doctors needs as well as the patients. Performs on a multi-task level. Enters the appropriate EPIC orders to obtain insurance authorizations for tests, physical therapy and durable medical equipment as indicated in Provider notes for sign off by Provider.

Proficient in utilizing EPIC for the following tasks: orders, changing providers, making appointments, changing appointments, checking patients out, recording administered injections using the MAR, use of quick disclosure. Proper intake of patients including marking as reviewed and associated documentation in the system for the following areas and as measured by meaningful use reports: vital signs, medications, updating pharmacy, history to include smoking status. Reviews patient charts for completion prior to patient session. Reviews MD schedule in advance of patient day to determine patient flow or overbooking issues.

Works closely with secretarial counterpart to address chart/scheduling issues. Capable of maintaining sterile instruments and proper use of autoclave. Cleans and restocks patient rooms. Able to act as liaison between patients, Physicians, office staff, and outside contacts. Keeps things running smoothly during clinic sessions. Routinely notifies patients of MD/APP delays. Routinely notifies Front Desk staff of MD/APP delays. Meets regularly with secretarial counterparts to review any issues that need to be addressed. Notifies patients and updates EPIC pertaining to the Disclosure of Ownership of the MR/CT equipment. Willingly performs other assignments and duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Completion of an approved Medical Assistant or Medical Office Assistant program or one year experience directly related to the medical field; current CPR/BLS certification; excellent interpersonal and organizational skills required.
