Chart Industries Quality Control Inspector - Junior in Sydney, Australia

What do we do?

We supply turnkey solutions, fans, compressors, turbines, blowers, heat exchangers and silencers, as well as a comprehensive range of services including specialised engineering for air and gas handling, project management, equipment servicing and site management.

Howden Australia has an immediate need for a Junior Quality Control Inspector to monitor and ensure products manufactured by sub-contractors and internal workshops meet Howden’s Quality standards and procedures. The candidate will also identify any non-conformances and be involved in the prevention and solution of these non-conformances.

The key responsibilities include:

  • Inspect and verify that the manufactures of Sub-Contracted Howden Products are as per Howden Drawings and Specifications provided.

  • Prepare progress Inspection Reports & Release Certificates for future reference and for the client.

  • Review for correctness and collect QA documentation/records for future reference and for the client.

  • Identify Non-Conformances and work through the solutions to ensure continuous improvement and future prevention.

  • Fill in the Inspections register and plan daily inspection activities to ensure all their inspections can be covered.

  • Expedite Sub-contractors and report progress to project managers to ensure sub-contractors meet project deliveries.

  • Monitor Sub-contractors performance to help Howden assess and maintain quality suppliers.

What do you need to bring?

You will have experience and an understanding of welding processes, procedures, relevant codes, report writing and QA documentation. You have a logical approach to solve non-conformances discovered and determine future prevention methods. You’re comfortable working in an autonomous manner, whilst also being an enthusiastic team player. You display good communication skills, both oral and written with the ability to communicate with people at all levels of the organization. The role holder will be self motivated and self-directed, with the ability to handle a number of tasks simultaneously and prioritize workload effectively.

Other essential skills required are:

  • Understand Engineering/Manufacturing Drawings and Manufacturing and Machining processes

  • Use and understanding of various measuring devices such as rules, micrometer, vernier calipers, Dial indicators, tong tester.

  • Experience with NDT testing. (Dye Penetrant and Magnetic particle)

  • Competent in the use of Windows and Office related programs.

  • Competent in basic mathematics

  • Drivers license

Other desirable skills are:

  • ISO9001 Systems knowledge

  • Previous experience where a methodical approach and attention to detail were required

  • Previous experience with heavy fabrication equipment manufacture and assembly

  • Trade qualified boiler maker, fitter, machinist or recently completed apprenticeship in similar trade

  • Willingness to learn new skills in an exciting Quality control environment working with experienced quality control inspection team.

The role holder is expected to spend 30% of their time in the Howden Office, and 70% of time at sub-contractors premises or travelling (interstate and international).
