Position Overview:

As a pivotal force in our dynamic ANZ leadership team, the Professional & Veterinary Affairs Leader is at the forefront of expanding our brand's influence in the region and reinforcing our position as one of the most recommended brand equities in the veterinary & pet specialty sector. This role is all about engagement and impact—leveraging multiple engagement strategies to educate and support veterinary professionals, schools, key accounts, and internal stakeholders to make Hill’s the Premium Pet Nutrition leader in Australia. Based in our regional Head Office in Sydney, NSW, this role cultivates a robust network of advocates and thought leaders, ensuring our scientific leadership and brand loyalty resonate throughout the veterinary community & broader pet industry.

Through a tailored regional strategy that aligns with our business priorities, this individual;

  • Leads a team of veterinarians that are out in the field each day engaging with the profession, as well as working with our territory managers to build their technical expertise.

  • Drives brand advocacy across Prescription Diet & Science Diet to secure our status as the top-recommended brand through strategic relationship management by engaging with Key Thought Leaders (KTLs) and veterinary influencers across the region.

  • Gets external: Works with brand to align on key conferences & trade shows around Australia, and manages the annual calendar to ensure that Hill’s Pet Nutrition is visible & engaging.

  • Foster long-term brand loyalty and endorsement by developing innovative educational programs for veterinary schools, veterinary nurses and students.

  • Builds a team that are the nutritional experts in the organisation, both for internal & external collaboration, and work closely with Vets in answering their specific nutritional questions.

  • Collaborate with key contacts within our key account customers to integrate our brand's programs seamlessly into their commercial frameworks, enhancing our market presence, building awareness with pet parents and delivering customer satisfaction.

The ideal candidate for this role has a passion for the role nutrition plays within the veterinary industry and a proven track record in digital engagement and brand growth. With exceptional communication skills and strategic acumen, you will be adept at navigating the complexities of the veterinary market and driving our brand to new heights.

You are comfortable engaging with both internal and external partners, and understand the value of broad reaching commercial relationships. Working closely with our Brand team, you manage an annual budget that reflects strategic objectives across both Science Diet & Prescription Diet, prioritising investments to maximise both immediate and long-term brand recommendation, growth aspirations and financial performance. You’re KPI focused, with a keen eye on digital engagement metrics, household penetration and market share growth.

Education/ Experience Requirements

  • Basic qualifications include: BVSc, DVM (or equivalent country qualification)

  • Preferred qualifications include: MBA, Membership or Fellowship ANZCVS in Internal Medicine or Nutrition

  • Highly regarded: tertiary qualifications in a related field (Masters, PhD)

Expected Areas of Skills

  • At least 6 years experience in a veterinary practice (or a similar job)

  • Has built a strong network in the veterinary community, including the local Small Animal Veterinary Association, and country specialist governing bodies and societies

  • Knowledge of the pet food industry

  • Experience in Hill’s or other commercial business

  • Business and practice management experience

  • Fluent in English, additional language a plus

  • Commercial experience highly regarded, but not essential
