    Assistant Underwriter

    Your role is within the underwriting team to support the High Hazard Property Insurance product within One Underwriting. Comprehensive, on the job training will be provided!

    What the day will look like

    The overall objective of this role is to work with the underwriters in the achievement of the sales and retention targets set for the team’s portfolio.

    You will be responsible for and assisting with:

  • Building rapport with, and providing professional and effective service to intermediaries and all other team members

  • Daily management of queries from Underwriters, Brokers, and all other stakeholders, responding promptly and efficiently

  • Responding to queries in regards to covers for specific policies

  • Keeping stakeholders advised of matters relating to their policy

  • Management of Policy documentation, including preparing and issuing documentation

  • Distributing quotes, finalising schedules, process invoicing, preparing claims reports and other associated activities

  • Maintain client files to ensure completed in accordance with underwriting standards

  • Support underwriting of New Business and Renewals as well as changes to policies, with a focus on retention as well as growth through new business

  • Ensure working to align with underwriting guidelines, underwriting policies and procedures and in accordance with the team’s Strategic Business Plan

  • Taking on extra responsibilities as you progress within the role and gain increased underwriting experience

    Skills and experience that will lead to success

    We are looking for that special person with a foundation of general insurance experience in a broking / underwriting / similar position. You will also have:

  • Foundational understanding of insurance and/or underwriting related concepts

  • Strong communication skills

  • the ability to analyse and assess importance of insurance matters quickly

  • Passion for customer service excellence and ability to build, develop and maintain positive relationships

  • Strong collaborative ethos, with the aim to complete administrative tasks in a timely fashion, and to a high standard

  • Ability to work to deadlines or even multi-task at times; while also being able to pivot workloads, if needed

  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in using Microsoft Office products, including Excel
